As we sit back and watch Trump destroy our government and now our economy, can we have an honest discussion about his mental health? MAGA believes he is playing three dimensional chess and has some magical power to make them all rich. But is it just possible that his bizarre policies and behavior are just a sign of continuing mental deterioration unfettered by any constraints like congress or the judiciary?

The billionaires in his cabinet won’t go along with that, not to mention all the other millionaires and billionaires in his administration who will continue to cover for him.

I am one of the posters who thinks that Trump is too bored to care. His goals are:

1) staying out of jail (check)
2) revenge (check)
3) validation and adoration
He does not actually have 3)but he thinks he does because JD lies and kisses up non-stop, weirdo Musk lies and and manipulates him, Karoline seems to genuinely worship him and she's pretty so that helps, and the MAGA crowds really do love him. (So basically, check)

As for the rest, he doesn't actually want to govern and has delegated power to others. He doesn't know or care what is going on and, as a rule, is not the least bit ashamed of his own ignorance.

I won’t diagnose his mental condition. But I do believe he is pretty dumb and has no curiosity about the world. That, combined with a massive ego, means he’s incapable of learning or listening to outside expertise. This BS about tariffs is because he’s fixated on American economic growth in the 1890’s. Like a lot of older people, those beliefs won’t be shaken by data, logic, or argument.

DC has rough people — and then we have very well-to-do people, with summer homes (a couple) and cabins that were “won” in card games at the turn of the last century. We learn from each-other. The rough folks actually get respect bc we know how to call BS, we work hard and we can run elections

I think you are overall right - and also this is his little pet project. I think he is overall a horrible, stupid, lazy, narcissist who rapes, lies, and steals when he wants to because who's ever going to do anything about it. He is careless and does not care one whit about anyone else's wellbeing.

And also I think the one thing he actually believes in in outside of all that is these idiotic tariffs. Like he truly believes he is doing a good thing for the country here, I think.

I really don’t think he thinks like that. I think it’s all Art of the Deal power posturing. He wants power, and he wants power over others. This is a way to get it. It’s not broader or deeper than that.
