I’ve just watched the series Adolescence on Netflix and it sent me down a rabbit hole on the whole Andrew Tate/Manosphere/incel culture.
If these men truly believe in the 80/20 rule, and subscribe to the “Manosphere”, how is it insulting to them to be described as an incel, a word created by the movement itself. Isn’t that exactly what they are being indoctrinated to believe? That because of women—not because of themselves—they aren’t having sex? What is insulting about being called a term your own cult coined? Explain it to me like I’m 5, please. |
| It's a derogatory term, like calling someone a "Karen." The same way "woke" went from being a term used positively among the social justice left to being a derogatory term used by their opponents. People can tell when they are being insulted, and they prefer not to be. |
Woke is not an insult. When someone calls me woke, I proudly say that I am. They mean it as an insult, sure, but if I don't feel insulted, it falls flat. |
| Do you know that incel is short for involuntarily celibate? That’s why it’s an insult. It’s saying you can’t get laid. |
I know what it means, and I know that men who claim membership to the Manosphere call themselves incels, they have whole groups dedicated to discussing their incel-ness. I don’t get how a man can say he’s an incel to other men, but be mad when someone else calls them that. |
Same thing happens with women and the b word. |
It's not the same. Young men who couldn't get laid and saw that as an injustice dubbed themselves "incels." "I'm an incel." "OK, you're an incel." "HOW DARE YOU!" Women got called bs by men who find them insufficiently docile. Women decided to claim it. "You're such a b." "Sure am!" "HOW DARE YOU!" |
| You’re trying to find logic in a nonsensical group. These people are totally twisted. There’s no helping or understanding them, they’re just losers who have failed in life and blame others for it. |
| You think calling a woman “average” wouldn’t be an insult? |
|
There is no slur for white guys, so they made one up. It follows the same rules as the b-word (fine to say if you're a woman, not if you're not), the n-word (fine if you're Black, not if you're not), or calling someone a f*g (fine if you're gay, not if you're not). If you're part of the group, you can use the word.
They're incels so it's fine for them to call themselves incels. If you're not an incel, you're assumed to be part of the group that's persecuting them (i.e. normal people who can get laid), so it's not okay. It's part of the whole persecution delusion the "manosphere" is so full of. Won't someone think of the white guys?! |
| Have these males ever considered that the reason they are involuntarily celibate is because they treat women poorly? Or, maybe their misogyny is so overt that the only women who would consider a sexual encounter is one in whichhe would need to pay in advance? |
| Frankly, I am tired of hearing the most privileged group on earth, WHITE MEN, complain. |
Only to a woman with some kind of disordered personality. Any rational, intelligent woman knows that there is a spectrum of physical beauty in our society and the large majority of us don't meet the above average or super model standard of beauty. Being average attractive is no big deal - it's a random expression of DNA how one's face/body looks, after all - it's nothing we can control beyond perhaps our fitness level but even then I can have a very fit body that is not shaped in a way that it meets societal standards for above average beauty. Now, call me an average achiever and those would be fighting words, because my accomplishments are much more within my control. If I'm better educated than 85% of the population, I'm not average. If I'm in a profession with a limited membership, I'm not average. Tell me I have an average character and we would definitely have to talk about that one, too. |
THIS, so much. |
It can't be explained to you because you don't even understand what you are asking. "Not even wrong." Can you formulate a coherent question, grounded in reality, not a hypothetical that only exists inside your own mind. Pretend that we haven't watched Adolescence on Netflix and read whatever uncited websites in your rabbit hole. |
