I'm an immigrant. I came from Canada 10+ years ago and have worked as a social worker for a state government. I'm terrified of the new administration revoking my green card over a new executive order. I have been an advocate for victims of abuse who are disabled. Funding is being cut for social programs, from Meals on Wheels to adult day health programs. I don't want my kid to die from a preventable disease and choose to vaccinate.
All I hear are complaints about immigrants, waste fraud and abuse, and lazy government workers. Why do you hate us so much? |
Your assumption is flawed.
I dare say few to no Republicans have any issue with you. You have a green card, so you are here legally. You are not advocating for the violent overthrow of a U.S. ally, so you're not engaging in activity inimical to this country's interests. You're not patently antisemitic and consequently unworthy of living among civilized people. You're not breaking any of our laws. You're fine. Be welcome. Don't succumb to hysteria fostered by ignorant doomsayers. |
But, you still think she is a lazy fed using taxpayer dollars to do nothing. So the point stands. Why do you hate them? |
Is it just me or did immigrants and citizens used to be more hearty and independent.
It seems to me like every other thread here is doom and gloom end of the world stuff. This seems to be something that came around in the last 20 years. Is everything really so dramatic in your life? |
Don’t worry, they hate plenty of Americans too. |
I know everything sucks right now, but why are you terrified? You can go back to Canada, which is a perfectly fine place to live. Arguably a lot better than the US at this time! It's not like you're at risk of being sent to Venezuela or something. |
Let me explain. This is a PERM case. Employer Name XXXXX Case Number XXXXX Case Status Certified This is when it was listed for PERM: Recruitment - Local newspaper to date 4/20/2023 Recruitment - Local newspaper from date 4/20/2023 Recruitment - Campus placement to date 5/15/2023 Recruitment - Campus placement from date 4/28/2023 I worked at that company for four years I had the same job title, the first time I found out happened right after they me go. During the same period, I had recruiter contact me, see quote below. This is the second time that this has happened to me with this company. I can go on the USCIS website and review all the cases where I applied in the area and where they hide their PERMs, for jobs. PERMs for jobs in my field while I was unemployed often for months at a time. This happens actually very frequently, and companies pull all kinds of shenanigans unbeknownst to the unsuspecting applicant. From requiring mail in applications to setting up all kinds of ticky tacky spam messages. I was naive to this for many years, but now I know why these are basically hostile interviews trying to prove that I don't have skills, because they already have a person employed. They are just "testing" the market, trying to depress the wages for LCAs, etc. In this process there is basically zero protections for me, no I don't have a lawyer making sure they fill out the paperwork correctly and only ask permissible questions or that these "skills" are even relevant to the positions. Why do I have to go to so many interviews to get a job? "I’m a Recruitment Consultant working with XXXX. This morning a close Client Executive of mine called me... He is looking for XXXX . I would love to set up a quick chat with you to discuss your current career situation and give you more information about this job opportunity. " I know those are companies doing it, but you're basically a scab. |
Why isn't she at risk? The Venezuelan guys deported to El Salvador were not from there. They were present in the US legally, and now they're in prison in a country they'd never been to. With no trial. And that's putting aside the legitimate fear of losing your house, job, funds, and community. It's not a minor thing to be kicked out of the place you live, even if you get to go to a nice country. |
NP. I’m a Democrat and you need to get out of your drama queen bubble. This is ridiculously overwrought. |
Republicans hate anyone who is not a white English speaking US native male Republican. |
Np. I doubt you are a Democrat. |
You aren't paying attention. |
You said too much. |
NP. No, it’s been that way all along for some of us. Perhaps it just didn’t impact you. There was a bright spot of hope that I, personally, would say started around 1954, grew brighter through the mid-seventies, and convinced many of us that this country might actually live up to our ideals. The prevalence of violence and the deliberate polarization of citizens into special interest groups helped change that. I’m going to watch Ruby Bridges again. It will help me to remember that Ruby Bridges is very much alive and active— as are many of the people who both harassed her and influenced their future MAGA offspring. |
Strawman. We care about ILLEGAL immigrants, and especially criminal ones, no matter what color or origin. The fact that libs have to continually conflate the two tells you that this is all about fearmongering and propaganda. |
