Is it just me or did immigrants and citizens used to be more hearty and independent. It seems to me like every other thread here is doom and gloom end of the world stuff. This seems to be something that came around in the last 20 years. Is everything really so dramatic in your life?
NP. No, it’s been that way all along for some of us. Perhaps it just didn’t impact you. There was a bright spot of hope that I, personally, would say started around 1954, grew brighter through the mid-seventies, and convinced many of us that this country might actually live up to our ideals. The prevalence of violence and the deliberate polarization of citizens into special interest groups helped change that. I’m going to watch Ruby Bridges again. It will help me to remember that Ruby Bridges is very much alive and active— as are many of the people who both harassed her and influenced their future MAGA offspring.
