GPL-1 for a little bit of weight loss (10-15 pounds)

Anonymous
I'm not up to speed on the literature, I just know that this is approved now at least according to advertisements.
I'm mid 40s , healthy, but about 10-15 pounds more than my ideal (around 150 and 5'6). I excersie and weight train. I would love to try this but I have a few questions:

1. can you go off of it? And if you do, does weight come back?
2. other than gastro side effects, have other more long term side effects been discovered?
3. is there a way to do a LOW dose of this- so the weight loss is also slow? (I saw an ad about oral drops?)
4. anyone use GPL-1 for only weight loss (10-15 pounds) and how did it go and do you recommend?

Our stats are similar. I'm 47, 5'6, and also wanted to lose 10-15 lbs. At my highest recently, I was 143 lbs. I took Tirzepatide and reached my goal weight, 130 lbs., in 4 weeks. I am currently at 127 lbs.

I didn't want to lose more weight but did want to maintain it, so my doctor switched me to Contrave, and I've been using that for the past two weeks. It's a terrific appetite suppressant. I just ordered a one-month refill and plan to use this for the long haul.

All my clothes, 2s and 4s, fit again, and I am very happy with my decision.

Me! I started tirzepatide at 145 lbs, 5'7, age 47. Currently 130 lbs after 10 weeks. I have stayed on the starting dose (2.5 mg) the entire time. I can't speak yet to what it's like to go off, because I'm still on as I'd like to lose 2-5 more lbs. I am back in my skinny jeans for the first time in years and I am happy. I am hopeful I'll be able to maintain, as I have always been a relatively slim person, and until about 5 years ago, I weighed what I weigh now. So I know what I need to do (and not do) to maintain. The miracle of this med is that I am no longer obsessing about food and battling hunger all the time.

There is a doctor named Tyna Moore who's written (and youtubed) a lot about "microdosing" which may interest you.

I had only mild side effects and only during the first couple of weeks. A little nausea and tiredness, but nothing that impacted my life. Still exercised, went to work, played with the kids.

Did you do. Prescribe even though you don’t have diabetes or did you find a good compound pharmacy?

I got my first prescription through a medspa (compounded) and then switched to an online pharmacy for a better price. It's last call right now for compounded tirzepatide, as the FDA has declared the shortage of name brand over and thus generics can't be sold after March 18.

There is not a settled standard of care with regard to this yet. But all indications are that people do (like with pretty much any means of weight loss) gain the weight back ... and some extra. FWIW, my doctor said it would be a lifetime medication.
2. other than gastro side effects, have other more long term side effects been discovered?
The most serious side effect "discovered" is thyroid cancer -- there is a box warning on that. The GI stuff (diarrhea, constipation, and stomach pain for me) has been truly awful. But with regard to other stuff: It was the debilitating fatigue and weakness that was the worst for me and made me consider going off of it. I've also had disrupted sleep, nightmares, depression, and blurry vision.
3. is there a way to do a LOW dose of this- so the weight loss is also slow? (I saw an ad about oral drops?)
No. You start at the starting dose of 0.25 and work your way up to a therapeutic dose over months. If you are fortunate, as I was, you lose right away on that low dose and don't have to go up. But many do not and it takes them months to go up to a dose that helps them lose weight. YMMV.
4. anyone use GPL-1 for only weight loss (10-15 pounds) and how did it go and do you recommend?
I started with a BMI of over 36. I have now lost over 50lbs and am continuing to lose and will stay on it as obesity is a chronic condition. I would NEVER take this drug for 10-15 pounds. Absolutely not. The side effects have been very hard on me. GLP-1 meds are not a magic bullet for most of us. That said, I suppose some people get lucky and have no side effects and lose easily. I've yet to meet one of those people in the wild though. The folks I know who are on it have suffered pretty significantly from side effects. You don't know how bad things can be until you consider going to urgent care to have someone help you with your constipation because you are literally bleeding and think the enema might not work. 0/10 on that -- do not recommend.

My responses are in bold above ^^.

The short of it, I would never recommend a GLP-1 for someone who only needs to lose 10lbs.

So you're healthy and asking if you should drop a nuclear bomb into your GI system just to see if you can lose 10 lbs. The answer is no.

I need this. I am 155 and would like to lose 10-15 pounds. What company will do this for someone with a BMI of 25?

The hack is to give a height and weight that gives you a bmi of 30.

For those who lost 10-15 pounds, did you stay in 2.5? Anyone start even lower?

I started at 2.5, never dosed up and now am on 1 mg a week. But I have stockpiled compound. The Lilly version is a single use vial, not sure how that would work since 2.5 mg is technically the maintenance dose.

No offense but you can’t lose 10-15 pounds on your own???? I totally get it if you are 40+ pounds overweight with health conditions. But 10 pounds???? That is a diet change, not I need a weight loss injection with major side effects. You could lose 10-15 pounds on a low carb or low glycemic diet in a few weeks. Why would you even consider it? People are nuts.
