| With the republicans totally off the rails and trying to destroy this country and go against the constitution, and it seems people have little confidence in the Dems maybe it’s time for a 3rd party to emerge? I feel like at this time it can gain momentum. Maybe something more centrist but on the socially progressive side. |
| Sure, go for a third party, OP. |
| third parties put bad plurality candidates like Trump into office. |
|
Yes, absolutely, please start one OP.
The Democrats are in bed with the corporations. That's why Bernie is a socialist. We definitely need a party that's independent of corporate interests. Please start one, OP. I'll join. |
|
It’s absolutely time for a third party, to give centrist Dems someplace to go to get away from the leftie insanity that is driving the Democratic Party currently.
A party for Dems who are sick of the trans-craziness, the constant racializing everything, and knee-jerk opposition. But who still think the GOP is a dumpster fire. Those people definitely need a new party. |
Didn’t the 2 party system just do that? |
| Ban lobbyists. |
| How is it the trope of Dems being in bed with big business holds, yet Musk just bought the white house with 240+ million dollars and there's nothing to see there? |
Agreed. But the republican propaganda machine has done an excellent job at making the Dems look like the enemy when they are doing exactly this. And their base just believes everything they say. I don’t actually believe the Dems are so bad, but the republican marketing has made many Americans think that. |
We can only hope they both go the way of the Whigs and dodo. |
I'm registered with no party affiliation. It's always been time for a 3rd party, but it's a hard habit to break. Ross Perot could've pulled it off, if only he weren't crazy. |

Two things can be true at once. |
|
3rd parties don't work in the US because our Constitution and winner-take-all voting do not incentivize power sharing and instead naturally lead to two large big tent parties.
All a 3rd party will do is make it slightly easier for one of the major two parties to attain total control and victory. Annoyed with the system of government dominated by two parties? Vote for initiatives that dilute major party power: ranked choice voting, jungle primaries, proportional Electoral College votes, etc. Alternative: split your votes between parties so they can act as a check on each other (eg, cast a vote for GOP House Rep and another vote for a Dem Senator). 3rd parties are only useful in parliamentary systems; they absolutely act as spoilers that enable minority rule in our democratic republic with winner-take-all rules. |
| We need TWO new parties for 2028. The Democrats and the Republicans have run their respective courses. No incumbents in 2028. Two clean slates. |
