No need to go to college for maga. For the rest of us, educate yourself as completely as possible. Ignorance is not going to help you.

No more FAFSA, so good luck getting aid.

That authority would move back to the Treasury Department.

Also closing DOE entirely would require a supermajority of 60 senators, meaning some Dems would need to join all the Reps, which is unlikely to happen.

FAFSA and Pell will move back to Treasury, as they were before 1980.

I have a feeling I know who you voted for. If you think they would go this far to shutter the DOE just for the services to be performed by another department, I have a bridge to sell you. They want less children in college, especially poor ones.

Pell numbers will stay where they are. US News rankings weigh Pell heavily, one of the reasons why some publics moved up over the last few years as US News tweaked its methodology.

Pell isn't going away.

Two things stand out: :.... conservatives concede they currently lack enough support for legislation to close the department and farm its core functions out to other federal agencies."

and

DOGE is ignoring required government transparency.

Harris

And of course not all the services would be performed by another department. There are a ton of things that will go away or be pushed to states rather than federal control that will eff up education at all levels. I think they will likely succeed at a lot of them. And I think trying to kill FAFSA will create a huge stink and isn’t where they will start. FAFSA will move back to Treasury, where is was housed long before the Ed Dept stood up.

What does DOE even do? Just because it exists doesn't mean it should exist forever. Where's the value add?

That's the problem with federal departments and agencies. Too many people are afraid to point out they're useless.

Sure those numbers won't be reported without the DOE and if they cut pell funding then game over.
