"Ontario's Conservative Leader Doug Ford is "ripping up" Ontario's $100 million contract with Elon Musk's Starlink in the wake of U.S. tariffs on virtually all Canadian goods, he said in a statement Monday.
The contract, signed in November, was meant to provide high-speed internet access through Starlink's satellite service to 15,000 eligible homes and businesses in rural, remote and northern communities by June of this year. Ford said Ontario will ban American companies from provincial contracts until U.S. tariffs are removed. Everything I’ve read and listened to tells me he is aligning with Canada. His Jordan Peterson podcast interview was a great listen. Canada has internal trade barriers and he wants to eliminate that. I didn’t realize how restricted trade is within Canada. |

I’m not sure. The anger at Trudeau is just so palpable and deep. Doug Ford is so aligned with Trudeau. But I agree that people have absolutely unified against Trump, and that is a political problem for Pierre. Pierre’s other problems may suddenly come into sharper focus as people take a second look at - Canadian |

That was Rob Ford (former mayor of Toronto), Doug's brother who died a few years ago. Doug was always pretty normal. |

Canadians want to punish the Liberals, but are now going to be wary of anyone who tries to emulate Trump. Pierre certainly fits the Trump mold and that's going to be a big issue for him and the Conservatives. Ford cuts a tougher figure than Trudeau, mainly in style. But with Ford you still get some of the things people like about the Liberals, while still giving them an outlet to "punish" the Liberals and express their anti-incumbent attitudes. Ford can thread the needle, imho. Especially if he gets some prominent, level headed Liberals to support him. |
