Looks like someone bothered to go and check. The Equity office in FCPS employs 52 and costs $6.4 million, enough to hire 125 new teachers.

Why is this thread being deleted over and over again. It's from the county news website.

This is what I have been saying for years. It is not that the system needs more money, it is that they need to spend it wisely--in the classroom.

Think what 6.4 million could do with after school tutors.

I wonder what these jobs entail. Would be interesting to hear what their day to day is like before passing judgement.

I agree that it’s important to be mindful of budgets, but I think DEI programs are meant to ensure all students have equal opportunities, which can’t always be measured by cost alone.

The idea isn’t to lower standards but to address gaps that might prevent some students from succeeding. It’s definitely worth discussing how we balance resources, but the goal is to create a fairer, more supportive environment and a world-class education for every child.

Money could be better spent in a number of ways.

So if you are taking Federal money, are you subject to the same DEI rules from Trump? I don't see anything about local education yet.

Look up the value of AI Tutors replacing teachers.

Local education is funded by local taxpayers for the most part. FCPS’s budget is only $50.1 million from the federal government. This is about 1.2%

So we spend more on DEI staffing than the entire federal government spends on FCPS. It’s that’s small.

But to answer the question, federally funded programs are being directed to cut their DEI immediately

How big is the Office of Human Rights and Equity Programs (OHREP) within Fairfax County? (Government, not the schools) From what I can tell, they have about 20 staff members.

Strange that the FCPS have a staff 150% larger than the county government’s DEI office. The county government has a much wider jurisdiction and they have to cover housing, employment, disability programs, etc etc.

Maybe this is a place where the BOS could easily push for some streamlining during budget discussions.

FCPS can just decline their federal funding then. $50M is not worth the oversight.

Umm, you know that all they do is complain about not having enough money, right?

They have enough money to have a $64M DEI office. $50M would not be missed. If it got them out of the administrative requirements of IDEA (would still provide special education obviously!) than it could be total savings.
