Any feedback on Macarthur?

It's a bad metric for high school math performance.

If the question is about the number of students working at an advanced level, which would be a better indicator? The number of 9th graders who:

1) score a 4 (met expectations) in Geometry/Algebra II OR

2) score a 5 (exceeded expectations) in Algebra I?

Neither. It would be a 3d option - score a 5 in Geometry/Algebra II

If we're talking about public or public charter schools in DC, this basically is not an option.

SY23-24 Performance Level 5 for 9th grade students taking Geometry: data is suppressed for all schools, all schools but the following indicate very low percentage (i.e., <5%, <=10%) or fewer than 10 students
Banneker
Jackson-Reed
School Without Walls
DCI
MacArthur

SY23-24 Performance Level 5 for 9th grade students taking Algebra II: data is suppressed for all schools, all schools but the following indicate very low percentage (i.e., <5%, <=10%) or fewer than 10 students
Jackson-Reed

(Had to go back to earlier data because the latest set annoyingly does not separate by grade level for HS math)

There does seem to be a public safety issue of criminals targeting students on their way to and from school.

That was 8:45 pm. But still, what little sh*ts. They could no doubt make the same amount of money working at Starbucks but prefer the thrill of mugging.

MPD confirmed it happened to a student immediately after a school event.

https://nextdoor.com/p/8ctSq3yKGBYp

“Robbery - 4500 MacArthur Blvd NW - At approximately 9PM on 12/17/2025, Second District units were called to the 4500 block of MacArthur Blvd NW for a juvenile robbery victim, who had just attended a school event, and was robbed by what he believed to be at least five juvenile suspects who “jumped” him. They took his iPhone and shoes. The iPhone was found a short distance away. A description was given of the first suspect, who is described as an apparently 15-18 year old black male, beard, and approximately 5-05 in height.”

There was an Ambulance in the school parking lot last evening (1/8) with several EMTs and, I believe, a few police officers. Seems to be a trend.

An ambulance on school grounds does not mean it is a bad thing.

These are high school kids. It’s not like they are having a heart attack or stroke. I bet it’s injuries with fighting or drug overdose or something along those lines, especially when police is involved.

Is this a satire?

News flash: teachers and administrative assistants have health crises that require an ambulance at times.

Have you ever been to a sporting event? Not uncommon for participants or spectators to require medical attention at times. Was there a basketball game at the time? Seems more likely than a drug overdose at 7pm on a weeknight on school grounds

Also not uncommon to require an ambulance when someone is assaulted.
