This. My Ford was constantly in the shop. The next car I purchased was a Honda. It’s done beautifully. |
It’s an old money vs. new money thing. The tech bro billionaires are new money. It’s why they want to be an oligarchy. They have to show off because they are insecure that they matter. |

I had good American cars - I kept them forever. But when I was replacing my last Oldsmobile (yes, it has been a while) GM wasn’t really making anything I wanted to drive. I went with a Mazda that’s now 16 years old. Soon it will be time to replace that, and there’s nothing domestic that I want to get. I want a gas hybrid that’s not too ugly and midsize SUV. GM went all in on electric and they pared down their lines so much that there’s little left. I test drove a Mazda that’s the same as the one I have and it was nice and a good ride. Their new hybrids are going to be using the RAV4 power train and engine.
They’re not making cars that people want to,buy unless if you want a mega SUV or a truck. |
| The Cadillac Escalade prints money for GM because it’s world class. This thread is full of anti-American strivers who think driving some foreign car is the pinnacle of success and sophistication because at the end of the day you’re just insecure proletariat. |
Well, yeah, but they don't compare any of those to offshore competitors. They compare them to each other, in a size class that foreign cars don't typically compete in. An Escalade is almost 1,000 pounds heavier than the largest Lexus. |
Yep there are no nice cars in old money Kalorama, McLean, Georgetown, Kent, Chevy Chase, Kenwood, and Edgemoor. Everyone drives decades-old Volvos. |
In Russia the super rich all have Escalades. Why there is a thing called big snow storms and deep snow in their winters. The rich who could afford a Porsche, BMW, Rolls Royce find them pretty useless. The also drive GMC Yukon XLs and Chevy Suburbans. |
| All the Asians I know drive Mercedes and Audis |
Axis of Evil cars |
| American cars give me too much trouble; I just want to get from point a to point b with the least number of problems in a car that will last for at least 10-15+ years. |
I’d rather be a proletariat than an oligarch. The peasants eventually revolt and heads roll. |
|
My family members brand new Range R is always at dealership for an issue.
They think they bought Lemon 😩 |
this is patently untrue, Escalades are way too large for many Russian roads. The super rich drive G wagons. |
Wife always wanted one, but we refuse to get anything that has such a horrible reliability... Decided on on a lexus with a bulletproof engine instead |
| If you have kids, once you try a large luxury SUV, there's no going back. You'll miss the view and everything feels too cramped. The modern safety features these all come with standard, modern fuel efficiency, and the 4 wheel turning have alleviated all the prior downsides. |
