I wrote the Tom Petty lyrics. I don’t think she will necessarily lose popularity, but you do have to wonder how many more people there are out there to convert to her fan base. She doesn’t appeal to everyone, just like the perfect “good girl” in Tom Petty’s song didn’t appeal to him. At a certain point, she will run out of places to expand. She can still make money off of her current fan base and run circles around everyone else, but recruiting a huge segment of new listeners/fans will require her to distort her “good girl” image in a way that would be damaging to her.

She doesn’t need to expand her base. She can go deeper with her existing fans and offer more products…

Do you think she will be able to transition as her fans outgrow the era of glitter bodysuit and boyfriend songs?

Eventually fans age and leave a lot of their "young" music behind. This is what happened to Katy Perry after she took a break. When she tried to come back her fan base has aged out and left her. I think this will happen to Taylor if she does not develop a more mature point of view.

Her last four albums were a mature point of view.

I am talking about maturity from a standpoint of being 40-ish and potentially married. The coy boyfriend and hinting about secret lover songs are not going to work over 40. From what I see that's still what she does.

I'm 57, long married, happily married, looking forward to retirement, and I enjoy a lot of her music. Who cares? It's still entertainment, and a lot of people find those themes entertaining regardless of age or life circumstances. The themes might still be there, but her lyrics and how she presents those themes have vastly changed. It's pretty cool to see.

This is not a healthy way to process anger, not mature and the theme of vengeance still undergirds her work.

You certainly have a good point that past artists tend to "age out," and taking a break is risky. Didn't JLo take a break and struggle to return? Taylor probably won't take a sustained break like that.

I understand what you're saying about the boyfriend and breakup songs. Those can only be interesting for so long. At the same time, TS has written good songs on other topics. "Marjorie" and "The Last American Dynasty" for instance.

An article about Madonna, JLo, Stevie Nicks, and Dolly and how they fared over time would be an interesting read.

PS: I could see Billie Eilish lasting a long time -- not just because she is so young -- but because she was tackling non-love topics like depression on her first album. She's also not a typical pop star with that jazzy voice of hers.

The novel ALL FOURS by Miranda July is hot at the moment, and it touches on similar themes as some of TS's songs. Maybe people like to dream about being bad, and the songs help them do that?

I am not this poster, but it's true that men who are football fans are tired of seeing TS. It may surprise you that they watch football for sports and not for Taylor Swift. Many are waiting for Kelce to retire so they don't have to see her on game broadcasts.

She is stuck in girlhood and needs to come up with a plan to grow into maturity. I’m not sure she and her parents have one. Didn’t she say pop stars were washed up at 35? Typically, maturity comes with a sense of responsibility toward society and others. Maybe she will come up with a foundation to help young girls and women to express her creativity.
