Anyone heard of going to South Korea for cosmetic procedures?

Anonymous
I’ve heard it’s cheaper but I’ve also been lingering on some boards and the work looks better than American surgeons. Hmm

No but since visiting Korea I would literally never go there for any type of surgery. So many of the people you see in Seoul look completely botched and almost inhuman.

I went to Korea this past summer, and while yes, lots of people with plastic surgery, they didn't look "inhuman", at least no worse than the Americans I see with plastic surgery.

Yes, OP. Medical tourism is a thing in South Korea. I think they have one of the most cosmetic surgeons per capita. It's not something you hide there. People walk around with bandages on their faces.

Some of the Kdrama actors have noticeably uneven eyes - presumably the result of bad eyelid surgery

Maybe you didnt spend enough time there. The plastic surgery is extremely uncanny valley in Korea.

Exactly. And honestly, a lot of the plastic surgery offices are extremely cheaply run assembly lines, like coming in for botox and leaving in 15 minutes. I definitely wouldnt go for surgery

Turkey is where lots of Brits go, apparently.

I would imagine the better surgeons there are still $$$

This is because they literally change their entire face shape to look more white. It's not "normal" plastic surgery. So yeah, if you're going to change your face from round to pointy you may look a bit off.

It's also fairly cheap there. One of my friends lived in seoul for 10 yrs and still raves about how cheap botox was. I think she said $40 for her 11's/forehead.

Don’t be stupid people. Cosmetic surgery is not a place to save money.

Yes, because those are the beauty standards there, so if you go there for surgery, you'll be getting it from someone who has learned these techniques and style. Meaning they will be trying to raise your nose bridge, narrow your job, make your eyes big and round, etc. And that's why so many people there look so incredibly STRANGE.

Also I've had botox in Korea and yes, it's cheap (but not $40 cheap, usually more like $100, maybe $80) and it's for Korean botox, which is actually not great and wears off much more quickly. You will pay a premium for American botox, and again, it's an assembly line, so there's no sitting and consulting with the doctor. They will give you your injections in 5 minutes and then it's onto the next. If all you care about is getting cheap botox, you can get probably better experience in other countries

um.. yea, that's one example.

Should we use this as an example of American plastic surgery?
