Anyone heard of going to South Korea for cosmetic procedures?

I went to Korea this past summer, and while yes, lots of people with plastic surgery, they didn't look "inhuman", at least no worse than the Americans I see with plastic surgery.

Maybe you didnt spend enough time there. The plastic surgery is extremely uncanny valley in Korea.

um.. yea, that's one example.

Should we use this as an example of American plastic surgery?

The difference is how many people in South Korea walk around looking utterly botched and crazy. Walking through Seoul can feel like youre in some kind of circus, freak show, or funhouse. literally multiple people who look like he does and look like aliens. And the fact that Jocelyn Wildenstein is considered a joke and a punchline in the west, and this guy is lauded as an attractive, good looking kpop idol, says it all. I dont feel like pulling up pictures but there are plenty of kpop bands, wildly popular with the Korean populace, where ever single member has visible surgery, botched noses, uncanny valley appearances and dont even look human. Very different to how Americans with bad plastic surgery are treated.

medical tourism is a thing. do some research.
several asian countries have medical tourism as an important part of their economy. you have to think about recovery and follow-up too and factor those costs in if you need to remain in-country for certain appointments.

i'm sure korea has hospitals offering high quality medical care. not sure how much cheaper it is than the USA. thailand and india are also cultivating medical tourism.

Idk, I see a lot of bad plastic surfer in the US. I think the difference is that Asians seem to do more structural facial work (changing cheekbones and jaws) and fewer fillers, duck lips and boob jobs

+1 IDK where PP lives, but there are definitely weird looking people in the US who clearly have had some bad plastic surgery.

^PP seems a bit racist, honestly.

Honestly if that pic of a Korean is your idea of terrible plastic surgery, I’d have to disagree. It’s not that that bad. Asians clearly have a preference for V shaped faces and will redo cheeks and noses and chins to get that look, but to me that beats the huge fake boobs, fake butts, duck lips, caterpillar eye brows and other weird things Americans do

This seems like a bit of a straw man. The fact is the Korean plastic surgery obsession has made many members of the populace look extremely odd.

And the irony of your comment is that the motive for them carving up their faces is their own culturally deep seated racism, specifically an obsession with looking white and distinguishing themselves from other Asians. So if we want to have the racism discussion, Korea doesn't turn out very well on that front either. It's a fail all around.

It's absolutely horrible, alien looking and if you truly think that looks good that kind of proves the point. There is some kind of facial blindness towards the extremely botched, odd looking malformations very often carried out by Korean plastic surgeons. To the point where you can have someone that barely looks human and they are still widely accepted and celebrated by the culture. Not a country that anyone should be relying on for aesthetic, well executed, subtle surgery.

Are the doctors in Korea used to working with Western faces?

You posted a picture of a woman who had the money to make surgeons do her bidding despite obvious mental health issues. Not applicable to this discussion.

I've heard of Korean immigrant families who send their kids back to Korea for surgery.

I was in Seoul for a week walking around and taking the subway. I thought most people had very young looking skin and looked mostly attractive. I didn't notice any strange looking post plastic surgery people. I did notice a lot of the same look. I visited Tokyo after that and realized how uniform people looked in Seoul, and I assume everyone has had plastic surgery. But no freaky looking people.
