Uvalde has clammed up and isn’t telling anyone much of anything. Which one was actually the scene commander?

Arredondo. He was clearly not adequately trained and/or a coward. However he is not the chief of the entire police department, just of the school district. When you are looking to place blame, make changes, tighten security, etc, it’s critical to know this.

Lol yes if only chief of police was there none of this would have happened. Goods gun with guns would have rushed by the good guys with guns to arrest and threaten parents.

OMG the classroom doors do not lock from the inside. All the classroom doors were open. There was no need to wait for the janitor to show up with keys. The first officers responding had rifles and ballistic shields. No police were shoot or injured. Everything these police and elected officials say is a lie.

I can not believe republicans in Texas will re-elect these people. I guess owning the libs is more desirable vs having your kid come home from school and being lied to about why your elementary kid was killed. I just do not understand the value system of Texas.

It's conservative identity politics. Being loyal to The Team is more important than your kid's safety. It's insane.

Come on, people, get real. This is not about politics. I don't know WTH happened in Uvalde but this is not about politics. Grown ass men stood around harassing parents while their children were getting slaughtered by an 18 year old punk. This is bizarre as hell.

I'm not talking about the actions of the police on that day. It is weird as hell, but cops have been drilled into their heads that their ONLY priority is "going home at the end of the day to see your family." This lack of action for an hour is the logical outcome of that training.

I'm referring more to the cover-up, attacking anyone who questions the Mayor's and local PD's narrative, the silencing of any discussion that blames access to military-grade firearms, and re-electing the same GOP loons over and over again in Texas who enable this crap. That's the identity politics at work.

What’s the point of having cops if these heavily trained, heavily armed, heavily protected cowards will not save the lives of little children?

I am glad video footage exist so Texans can see what the stupid propaganda and GOP policies get them.

The reality is we’re all afraid of someone with an AR-15. Asking small police forces to confront a shooter with a military weapon is not fair. They are to blame for the poor response but never should have had this responsibility to begin with. Those weapons should be banned.

I agree - but also why did that have that highly militarized (and presumably trained?) SWAT team?!

What an absolute tragedy, and I cannot believe that these people waited outside while the gunman slaughtered children. There is no amount of information or analysis that will ever let me get my mind around that.

They did not show up. The swat team came from CBP.

No I get that - I was responding to PP's statement that "Asking small police forces to confront a shooter with a military weapon is not fair. They are to blame for the poor response but never should have had this responsibility to begin with." Police forces the country over are militarized like this - but why, if it's not fair to ask them to respond to a situation like this? What if there were TWO shooters - like Columbine? Then they wait outside twice as long - despite having this sort of gear and training?

What is the point of a militarized police department if they still can't be tasked with responding to an active shooter. Am I a step away from defund the police?

people shouldn't even have military grade weapons.

+1 million. The USA is the only developed country that lets people buy automatic weapons as easily as they buy cigarettes.

The 18 year old did not act alone. Obviously.

??? Um, yes he did. That's the point: buying an assault rifle is INCREDIBLY EASY. Head over to Google and type "buy AR-15." See?

No it is political. The system is totally corrupt and everyone in Texas is rallying around the police and elected officials. This is about conservatism and rallying around people who lie. It does not matter is it is the “Big lie” or spreading lies about teachers, 911 operators, etc it a culture of lies that is the republicans/conservative way. It is about you and your fellow republicans and what you think is normal.

+1. And what's the latest on whether police shot any of those poor children?

When dozens of young kids die to save the life of a cop, it's a clear sign of a decayed culture, not just in Texas but US.

They are.

The Texas House is also investigating, FWIW. Uvalde police have already said they won’t cooperate.

91 LE were at school and they did nothing. It took the federal CBP to actually open the door and kill the guy. We all know what Texas and the republicans thinks of the feds.

Most normal people who be ashamed but not Texas.

Those are the policies they voted for.
This is the outcome they voted for.

Remember a lot of those kids were of mixed race. I bet that had a lot to do with the police hesitancy to risk anything.

Well that’s a given. But you’re giving 12 or so police officers way too much credit that they knew the 2 classroom doors were unlocked. These are not intelligent people. Not one single idiot checked to see if the doors or at least one door was open? The two classrooms had an interior connecting thruway. Check the damn doors morons! Which class was the shooter in? Figure it out and enter thru the other classroom door, ambush him from the front while another officer enters the 2nd unlocked door and ambushes from the back. Dumb looking, mouth breathing, cowardly men. The entire governance in TX is flushed with big bellied men with guns who are just pathetically stupid. A petite, unarmed, rogue mom got her two kids out all while directing their classrooms to get out through the way she entered. These poor parents and children destroyed by neanderthals. Their twangy Tx voices are nails on a blackboard. Yeh it’s a rant. Just leave me to my anger.
