Which party runs around with tiki torches and swastikas again? |
Harry Jackson has returned to the chat, folks. Just further proof to be shown that there is a lot of money to be made in being Black and telling everyone that Black people don't experience racism. |
The number of students who were prepared for the tougher classes has gone up over twenty years. If you go another 20 years prior, even taking algebra 1 in middle school was not common. |
There was another book, I think by a pair of writers, that talked about mismatch theory. It might have called Mismatch, but perhaps I am confusing it with The Shape of the River. |
You're right, but the point many seem to be making is that the school will somehow suffer for there being slightly fewer kids in the most advanced math courses. And that's simply not true. The school was fine when the vast majority of students entered in Geometry and it will still be fine now that about a quarter of them are. Indeed it might be a healthier environment because of the lack of emphasis on hyper-acceleration and the smaller number of students who have gaps in their understanding through that advancement. |
Exactly. These people are willing to side with folks who want to return us to the Jim Crow era and burn down our democratic institutions all to save them a few theoretical percentage points in admissions to elite schools. |
It's more than TJ, it is not acceptable for elected SB members to mock and openly discriminate against Asians and set out to reduce Asian numbers. Politicians openly making statements and taking actions against a racial minority group in a mocking/racist way is never acceptable. You will never understand why Asians are upset if you keep saying - why are they so rabid about TJ. |
Two problems with this: 1) TJ even after the changes is >50% Asian 2) Selection is race blind. |
Read the thread. You are justifying racism. You are a racist. |
+1 It was done in a shitty way but it was a step in the right direction. If TJ is a problem that can't be fixed then it should just go away. |
Being racist is never a step in the right direction. There was nothing wrong with TJ to fix. Lack of academic achievement by certain student demographic groups is not a problem caused by TJ. |
|
Dems don't care who they step on as long as they can pander. |
Race isn't a factor or known by admissions and Asians are the largest cohort at TJ. So yes, it sounds like there's nothing to complain about. |
The result is a step in the right direction. There was much wrong with TJ to anyone who actually cared about racism instead of opportunistically shrieking about it in bad faith. |
