Freshman roommate... hard liquor

Roommate has a crate under his bed. My kid is a teetotaler. Is that enough to request a move? I don't know how to do that without being a snitch.

Is just having the liquor the problem or is the roommate abusing it? If it is a chronic situation that is interfering with your kid's sleep or quality of life and they have already tried to work through it with the roommate, it is probably worth a conversation with the RA.

What is your child's concern? He's going to be around alcohol in college. Why is a crate of hard alcohol worse than a case of beer? If he's recovering from substance abuse and this is triggering, he can ask if there's a substance free dorm.

No, not enough. Stay out of it and let your child handle inroads issues. Possessing alcohol in college is not enough to ask for a room switch.

Unless the roommate is forcing drinks down your kid's throat, or unless they are partying in the room and disrupting your kid, then the roommates liquor is none of your business. Or your kid's.

Is your child in recovery for addiction? If so, tell them to talk to the roommate and ask if they can remove the alcohol from the room. If the answer is no, then yes, request a change.

Otherwise, no, this is not worth a room change, or even a conversation with the RA.

Not enough. And it's worth your finding out what's really going on, because a crate of alcohol hidden under a bed is really not hurting anyone.

FWIW, I lived in a triple my freshman year and drank a lot more than my roommates. But they were the ones who tended to stay up late nights and disturb me by being loud. I was on the crew team, so it was particularly difficult.

Don't borrow trouble. Pay attention to real problems.

Dealt with this and weed with Dc. It’s not the liquor per se - it will be the week night parties, vomit, and lack of sleep that creates the real problem. Have your kid focus on that not the liquor in the room.

If your kid is unconscious have them ask housing.
However better have a better reason
