A new storm in the Gulf of Mexico has recently formed and is now Tropical Storm Milton. It's expected to hit Florida by Wednesday as a hurricane.

Yes, this one is not good. So close and we won't know where it hits until so close to impact people cannot leave. It is terrible. I'm in Broward and stocked up on more supplies this am. |
From my weather discussion board:
"I don’t think many people from outside the area here fully appreciate the situation we find ourselves in here around the shore areas of Tampa Bay there’s literally piles ten feet high of debris , discarded furniture, appliances and miscellaneous crap up and down the coast for miles and miles. I doubt much of it will be picked up by the time the rains hit. Any surge or even just heavy rains in this area will push that stuff into houses and cars and create tremendous hazards for anyone caught in the flood path. if we get cane strength winds ahead of the flooding then all those items will also go flying. I mean you couldn’t script a more damaging scenario if you tried. i also failed to mention how all that crap by the side of the roads will certainly clog up our storm drains in short order. A mild surge can then turn into a major flood even in areas that don’t normally flood." |
Very bad timing, physically (before Helene debris are cleared away) and politically. There will probably be a ton of disinformation from foreign agents and the fringe right once everyone in Central Florida loses power, just like there is now in North Carolina. |
Milton's expected to hit around the Tampa Bay area as a major hurricane. This does not seem good, especially with some people who are already trying to recover from Helene. However, I am also worried that Milton might turn and move left towards the East Coast (I assume exactly where it could be around the Carolinas or DMV area.) |
In other news, it’s hurricane season and a hurricane will hit Florida. |
Well yes. I'm surprised the hurricane season this year was not active and had a sluggish start as it was suppose to in September, but I do assume it'll probably ramp up quickly this month and November when the season ends. |
+100 I actually saw a comment from a woman who believed an AI-generated video of Trump pulling people from rivers was real. I have no idea where or how that woman thinks an old man (nearly 80) can pull people from a raging river when he has trouble walking... |
It's WAY too early for solid predictions on east coast impacts, PP. But yes, some models have it hugging the entire east coast all the way north... If it hits the populated center of Florida, then scrapes the entire coast, it would be the first time in recorded history that a major hurricane has gone from the western gulf to hit Florida then done a number of the east coast as well. So. Might not happen. |
Maybe that was a troll comment? There's a whole army of them paid by Putin and Iran to increase divisions in the American electorate. |
That person is probably correct that we don't entirely see the situation or understand it. Many of us also don't understanding living so close to water. At some point, one has to use logic and see that living in flood zones is not a good idea. I'm not talking about people too poor to move or those stuck in mobile home parks, which should not be allowed to be built in flood zones. You know someone bought cheap land and said "let's put the poors here" -- in a mobile home that will fall apart in the first hurricane...That should not be legal to do. I understand that Asheville and mountain areas could not predict the mudslides and other ramifications of 30 inches of rain, and I am not talking about them. We'd all be wise to understand a catastrophe could strike any of our homes, and we will hopefully have at least three days of water and food stored away. If you live in a rural area, you should have a week or more of food and water stored for emergencies. |
It could be. This was on Facebook, and maybe the army of bots created fake profiles. I didn't investigate it deeply and certainly hope someone is not that dumb. |
I live in Tampa Bay. I don't see this happening-people in Florida expect hurricanes. You understand the possibility of power outages. I havent' seen or heard of anyone who thinks it is anything other than weather related. But, I also don't hang out with weirdos, so there's that. I will say-I, and many others here, are so completely shocked at how hard Helene hit NC. You expect it 'here', but not there! |
Yep. |
You're correct, I should have specified that the disinformation is happening in N. Carolina. |
