I have encountered this accusation, now on several forums and also in “comments” sections of news accounts.
But no one backs up the charge and I could not find anything on the normal fact-checking sites like Snopes. Where is this false rumor coming from and why are people spreading it? |
| Not secretly. He wrote a text book about it. He taught Marxist economics in college. |
|
Go read his books.

First of all, he was a post-Keynesian economist. That doesn’t mean he was a Marxist. Second, who the hell cares if he was? He isn’t running for President. |
You know Econ degrees require learning about all the systems, right? Taking the class or teaching it doesn’t mean you are a Marxist. |

Harris' father was a professor who wrote about communist economics. His own economic beliefs draw heavily on Marxist concepts, but not necessarily communist ideas. He seems to agree with Marx's ideas about capital. But, as far as I am aware, he doesn't address concepts such as dialectical materialism or other Marxist political beliefs.
If you look into his writings, there is nothing that revolutionary about them. Like many economists, he does not believe that the free market, left to itself, will result in satisfactory outcomes. Therefore, he supports government intervention. His Marxist ideas are evident due to his emphasis that this intervention should be aimed toward economic equality. It is always dangerous when academic writings which are normally full of nuance and qualifications are reduced to a political one-liner. So, the answer to your question, strictly speaking, is that Harris' father was a scholar of communist and Marxist economics, there was nothing secret about it, but that there is no evidence that he is "communist" or "Marxist" as those terms are commonly understood in America. |

Yes, we know you don't care.
You have differing standards based on what party the candidate belongs to. |
Which party does Harris' father belong to? |
| This is obviously totally relevant because Kamala’s father is clearly running for president. |
Is he a candidate for office? No? Then he doesn't belong to a party. |
| His writings are Marxist, but when he advised the government of Jamaica, it wasn't particularly Marxist. |
I don't know that to be the case. |
| This has about as much relevance as Billy Carter's affinity to beer. |

1) there is nothing insidious or shameful about being a Communist or Marxist
2) so? This is a feature not a bug. |
What do you know to be the case? |
