It's blackface dumb a$$. My child's school has blackouts all the time, wear black clothes, not black face.

Here, friend (I won't resort to name calling). This is the definition of blackface:

"Blackface is a form of theatrical make-up used predominantly by non-black performers to represent a caricature of a black person."

This is NOT what these kids were doing. Keep spreading the lies.

So black t-shirts are one thing. Painting their faces black? Who ever thought that’d be ok? This community has poor judgement.

There is a difference between black face and a blackout game. Sorry you don't get that.
To see a racial angle with every situation is a sad way to go through life.

Poor judgement. The first adult that sees a kid with blackface should have shut that down

This is also a group who systematically exploits kids to push their political agenda. So not very surprising. Poor judgment. Questionable morals.

Once again. It wasn't "blackface." But, go ahead and keep spreading lies.
A group who exploits kids? You mean, because the parents and the school instill the value of sanctity of life they are pushing a political agenda?
So, you not only search for racism where it doesn't exist, but now you are demonstrating an anti-Catholic attitude.
So, you have checked off the race box. And the religion box.
Now, find something about the "male" box and the "Trump supporter" box and you'll be batting 1000.

1) Where did I say anything racism? I said the adults had poor judgement to let any kid have blackface (& black body), especially at a school event. Kids are probably clueless about the historical meaning but the first adult who saw that should have shut that down immediately. Poor judgement.

2) The school and parents are welcome to instill their values at home and school. As soon as they have their kids MARCHING or protesting with graphic signs then they are using this kids to push their political agenda. They are inserting themselves into other people’s beliefs, choices, and bodies.

Poor judgement and questionable morals for this whole community.

DP. And do you say the same about the Women's March participants, who had their kids out there with graphic signs? (I remember an especially disgusting one with a toddler girl holding a sign that said "keep your law out of my c*nt.) How DARE liberal parents exploit their children that way!

They didn't commit a crime, but we're still exhibiting poor behavior. That church has met at that bus stop for decades and some of the kids had been there before. Just because some adults who people already have little respect for also behaved poorly doesn't change my view of this school. The adults were there and did nothing or even encouraged the altercation.

When I attended the march as a child our priest prayed with us and we quietly got back on the bus without engaging anyone including other kids at the march. For decades kids have come to the mall for this. No mistake why it was the MAGA hat wearers who were caught on video behaving poorly.

For Catholics, what do you think it is acceptable to wear a political statement to a church event. Even if this altercation isn't national news it should be religious news for the church to reflect on fixing[list] their image.

And, the "unnecessary altercation" was actually caused by Mr. Phillips, who approached the group.
If he had remained in his own personal space, there would be no story.
Keep justifying your view. The outrage over this incident is so overblown it would be laughable if these kids weren't in serious danger now.

He stepped between white kids that were unable to walk away from an altercation with a hate group and the white kids decided to surround him and block his path, he did not get in their face they got into his face.

This is such bull$hit. Mr. Phillips could have walked away at any point. He stood there defiantly drumming and singing in the faces of these kids. He had no intention of leaving. Nobody blocked his exit. He made the choice to stay.
You would think a 63 year old man would know better. He wanted a confrontation. And, then he went on CNN and MSNBC and lied about the incident.

Yes, that is exactly what they were doing. They were putting on black face to mock black basketball players.

Why are you such an apologist for gross display of unsportsmanlike conduct. Often they are on the basketball floor yelling in the face of players on the other team. You think that is a proper way for boys to act at a sporting event?

What do you think of the video posted of the boys harassing the girl walking by?

I think it’s adorable how many people are saying their teenage sons would stand by idly and be called vile names and not react in any way like the gentlemen they were raised to be. I highly doubt any of you actually have teenage sons. Be real.

I thought Catholic schools were supposed to instill different values in their students than other school, that their students were different and above the norm? Otherwise why spend the money t send them?

Everybody in the Catholic school community know sending your son to an all boys school like Covington... (aka Gonzaga/Prep) you are going to have to deal with this toxic type of behavior.

Many of us will not send our kids to all boys schools for this exact reason.

You can see their Covington hats and shirts.

Do you think it is okay for them to act like that?

Should they be disciplined for that?

dp. When I read about the blackface, I too, was taken aback.

Then, the picture showed the entire student body wearing black and one kid with black makeup and what looked like a comic-book character inspired white painted on smile. The theme of the game was blackout. smh.

I'm sure they aren't angels since only well behaved, empathetic teenagers live inside the Beltway and those who aren't perfect have been victims of adults flawed implementation of the Olewus Bullying Program. The adults only falter due to systemic societal breakdown caused by [fill in the PR Clients enemy here]. Yeah, yeah, yeah Got it.

Anyone with a modicum of sense knows it is not a good idea for white boys at an predominantly white school to paint their faces black to menace an opposing team that has black players, no matter what the intent. If you don’t know that this is a bad idea you need to read more widely especially about American racial history.

Also why did the kids leave patches of white around their eyes and lips?

He clearly has very little experience with such elitist pigs. He was not prepared for a younger male to stand in defiance of an elder since that is not how they raise their children. Most of the boys stepped back.

Yes. They will be met with hatred sometimes when they cat call an innocent woman walking down the street or when they hold a girld down on a bed and assaulting her or when they black face.

How do you think those actions should be met?
