He looks like any young aspiring technocrat. |
I love that his wife is getting a taste of what he and his cronies put other Americans through. I saw on twitter today MAGA is melting down that he's married to a brown woman and someone sarcastically tweeted "Wow, I'm sure JD will be great for immigration!" Another person said "Legal vs. illegal immigration. Look at Melania."
She's not like Melania! She's not an immigrant! She's a citizen by birthright, which her dh wants to do away with! Get a taste of it. See what kind of discourse your dh stokes. But whatever. So glad he likes dogs and the movie Babe. |
NP. I just don’t see this as a big deal, particularly in this context. We are discussing food. I would say I’m from an immigrant family. I hate JD but that’s a fine short hand to explain why he uses ghee. |
The hypocrisy is fascinating, isn't it? Let's review: --Trump's paternal grandfather was an immigrant and a draft dodger in his home country. His mother was an immigrant. In fact, none of his grandparents, and only one of his parents, was born in the United States or spoke English as their mother tongue. He married two immigrants. Second immigrant wife got an "Einstein visa" with the help of rich boyfriend. She then brought over her family via chain migration. Her parents most likely availed of Medicare, despite never having worked in the US (something Republicans complain about). I realize these were all legal immigrants, but Melania's status is questionable at best and Trump's own relatives came at a time when the bar for immigration was quite low and skewed toward Europeans. --Vance's wife. Born in the US to Indian immigrants. Note sure if they came here on student visas or work visas, but they have impressive credentials, much like Kamala's parents, who both came to the US as foreign students. Usha's father is an "engineer and a lecturer in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at San Diego State University" and her mother is a biologist and provost at the University of California, San Diego." Republicans love to complain about people with H-1 or H-1B visas coming over here and taking American jobs, especially Indians. In fact, in his first go around Trump slowed down the visa-granting process for certain types of work visas and there's every indication he will do it again--and worst. |
I don't care about him, his personality, background. The man is against universal childcare and says it's bad for the middle class? That is some wacky position right there. |
Why is it wacky? I don’t want to pay for your kid’s childcare. |
I admit, I prefer the preschool choices available in Nova, from half day to full day, academic or play based, church based or independent, to the universal preschool of DC. DC's universal preschool model is the one that everyone looks to and wants to replicate nationally, for every city and every state. And I'm glad we don't have that in Nova. |
I bet if you think about it you can see the difference between coming from an immigrant family and being an immigrant yourself. Give yourself a second and you'll get it. |
We did both universal pre-K and a private religious one before that. The private one was "better", sure. I think it's fine for people who want to do private to do private, but a public option should be available because private is out of reach, and that includes for the middle class. Being against safe childcare options for little children is being anti-women (since we still bear the brunt of childcare) and anti-children. |
+1 |
Expanding a public preschool option is good. But universal public preschool means no private alternatives. In DC, there are no other options. There are no church based half day preschools, no co-ops, no other options. Only full day academic preschool in a school building, or the handful of public Montessori full day preschools in a school building. |
My parents are immigrants and I stand by what I said. There are soooo many other things to take this guy to task on. You are focusing on non-issues. |
I’m hoping that JD Vance is actually a Dem plant who will turn on the Republicans. A tiger doesn’t change his stripes overnight, and he was a major critic of Trump. |
