What’s the point of having cops if these heavily trained, heavily armed, heavily protected cowards will not save the lives of little children?

I am glad video footage exist so Texans can see what the stupid propaganda and GOP policies get them.

The reality is we’re all afraid of someone with an AR-15. Asking small police forces to confront a shooter with a military weapon is not fair. They are to blame for the poor response but never should have had this responsibility to begin with. Those weapons should be banned.

I agree - but also why did that have that highly militarized (and presumably trained?) SWAT team?!

What an absolute tragedy, and I cannot believe that these people waited outside while the gunman slaughtered children. There is no amount of information or analysis that will ever let me get my mind around that.

They did not show up. The swat team came from CBP.

No I get that - I was responding to PP's statement that "Asking small police forces to confront a shooter with a military weapon is not fair. They are to blame for the poor response but never should have had this responsibility to begin with." Police forces the country over are militarized like this - but why, if it's not fair to ask them to respond to a situation like this? What if there were TWO shooters - like Columbine? Then they wait outside twice as long - despite having this sort of gear and training?

What is the point of a militarized police department if they still can't be tasked with responding to an active shooter. Am I a step away from defund the police?

Yes if everyone is armed no one dies….just like in the Ukraine.

Of course they could have. They are armed and trained for a scenario just like this. Number one priority in active shooter situations, per SOPs in PDs across the country, eliminate the shooter as quickly as possible.

Are you kidding? That’s literally THEIR JOB. That town is sending 45% of their budget on their cowardly cops. The AR-15 they all were carrying, their bulletproof vests and their shields are not toys, they were purchased to be used in situations like this. An off duty border patrol officer went in with a barber’s shotgun. Give the guns to the parents and get out of the way.

My point is police should not be in this situation. We should ban AR-15s. The politicians are the true cowards here, passing responsibility for their failures to local police.

The police with Ar-15s drove by the guy before he entered the school…but took no action.

Wow, Greg Abbott and the mayor of Uvalde have bloody eggs on their faces after this statement.

How many people know that Arredondo is not chief of Uvlade police but school district police chief? It's an important distinction.

+1
Stop the shooting, then stop the dying. Been that way since Columbine, probably before some of these cops were born.

Uvalde has clammed up and isn’t telling anyone much of anything. Which one was actually the scene commander?

It’s not. He had tactical command and did nothing.

Hiw many people know one or teacher victim's husband was a school resource offcer that had gotten a message from his wife and was detained on scene by the police for demanding to go into the classrooms and do something?

Town meeting tonight. MAGA mayor shooting off his mouth about DPS Director in an effort to shift blame. Town declines Arredondo request for leave.

It is now known that the classroom door could not be locked from the inside. Only with a key from the outside. The teacher had complained about this issue. The door was brought to a public hearing before the Texas Senate. The Texas House is holding closed door hearings because … Texas.
