It's a thing, derivative of the "I have a black friend so I can't be racist" or "I say this about everyone and offend everyone so ergo I'm not racist!" mindset. The kindest thing you can say is these people think themselves to be good people and feel personally attacked by all this race talk but don't have the brain power to undertake the cognitive dissonance necessary to engage in conversations about race without internalizing them. They also lack the ability to see things from other people's perspectives, namely recognize or validate the experiences of people of color since they cannot personally relate. [/quote]
