Chocolate addiction

Anonymous
I am not a troll, not am I strong willed.

How do I get off chocolate addiction?
I always have some in the house given by someone , I am a teacher.

I am prediabetic and I am desperately trying, rather unsuccessfully to get off chocolate.

Any suggestions?

Check out glucose goddess on instagram and her book. Implement her hacks and reduce spikes and cravings. It has helped me a lot although I haven’t give up sweets completely yet.

Honestly, the best and most efficient way is to not have any available. Give away what you were given, don't purchase anymore. Creating a habit takes time, dismantling a habit takes time. For me the only way is to go cold turkey and have nothing available for those moments of weakness. For me once I reach the 2 week mark without - I'm much stronger about not reintroducing. I have tried moderation but even just a square of dark chocolate each day pushed me to try more. Mileage may vary but I have to not have any available.

This. You don't need to cut it out completely. The biggest thing is to not have it on an empty stomach. This will spike your glucose and set you up for intense cravings. If you eat something with a lot of fiber before having something sweet, the glucose spike will not be as extreme. That should also help with cravings. Just make it a rule to have something savory and high fiber before any sweets. Also, ALWAYS start your day with something savory.

Also, have some plain psyllium husk around for those times when you NEED something sweet. Before the chocolate have 2 tsp of psyllium with a glass of water. The fiber from the psyllium really helps with the glucose spike from the chocolate.

Interesting - there must be very differently wired brains and bodies. Savory for me causes a trigger for sweet. Empty or full stomach. Lots of fiber also =craving. I have found I just have to not have it available to make it work.

I'm dealing with this too OP. Have also found I can just not have any at home at all. I gave all chocolate I had to my local
Buy nothing group, and started from a clean slate. Summer is a good time to do this, as you won't be as tempted as you would around kids.

What has helped me is adding a teaspoon of cocoa powder into my oatmeal in the morning. I don’t crave a piece of chocolate later on.

What kind of savory breakfast do you eat?

Greek Yogurt, eggs (scrambled, omelet etc) Avocado toast, smoked salmon - pretty much what the Glucose Goddess recommends

Embrace it. Good quality dark chocolate is high in fiber and iron and relatively low in sugar. Plus loads of antioxidants. Go ahead and have a couple squares daily.

Throw out all the cheap chocolate candy

I would check the probiotic strains in your yogurt. If it contains acidophilus, there are studies showing that acidophilus can increase appetite and lead to weight gain in livestock.

Yeah that’s interesting. Since I have started eating my food in order and taken out oatmeal and granola for breakfast I have noticed a big difference!
