I have been saving so I can buy my daughter a new dress for 5th grade promotion. This is a big deal to us and I literally just need the NAME OF STORES TO TRY. We are going shopping later today. Please help me pick some stores that regular people go to for this kind of dress for an almost-11yo. She’s tall and thin for her age.
Yes, I have another thread going but no one is answering literally the question what stores should I go to. |

JC Penny’s, Macy’s, Old Navy, Aeropostale, Hollister
But at 10 and thin, you may not find women’s clothes that fit. I’d try the dept stores first |

Nordstrom kids' department goes up to size 12-14, I think, depending on what style you are looking for.
OP, I think the reason you aren't getting many answers is because it's actually hard to find brick and mortar stores that carry nice merchandise. When my daughter was that age, I found dresses at Nordstrom or online but they weren't necessarily good quality ones online. Also, try Bloomingdales. I also think (if you were willing) you could make an appointment at Lilac Girl in Bethesda. They carry this brand which is hard to find in stores but please check out their website and consider ordering from here: https://katiejnyc.com/collections/tween-day-dresses |
| The last two dresses for events I bought for DD were from Old Navy. She was in 6th and 7th grade. Elementary promotion and a family dinner. |
| Kohls, Macys, try the Junior department |
Why even ask then? Can’t you just go to the mall and walk around? There are only a few stores that would remotely have something- and it’s pretty obvious |
| I got my kids 5th grade promotion wear from Target. They usually have a section of appropriate wear. I also have had luck at Kohls, Macy’s and sometimes Marshall’s. |
| Marshalls and TJ Maxx |

I think this mom is asking for stores that are slightly nicer than Target? It sounds like she saved for awhile for a nicer dress but OP, if you give us your price range we can help you better.

Your best bet is to look online at mall and dept stores first. The prices are almost always cheaper online and you can choose pick-up in store and try on there.
Ideas: Old Navy, Macy’s with coupon, Windsor, Target, Aeropostale, Nordstrom Rack |
The child’s 10, target has nice things for 10 year olds. |
Thank you and others who have provided names of stores and practical advice. -OP |
| Old Navy, JC Penny's, maybe Gap and Macy's if I didn't find anything at the first two. If you can go shopping today to take advantage of Memorial Day sales, that would be helpful. |
| If your goal is to splurge on something designer, look at the RealReal or Poshmark… |

Check some of these stores out online to see if they have the type of dresses you are looking for and the typical price range. You can even check if your DD likes the style.
Then check the dresses you like out in person and try them on. I grew up low income and would have killed for all this info that is out in the internet today to learn about a store and it's contents before I even entered a store. Saves you time too. Good luck! |
