What is going on with student loans?

I know some are fighting it just for the sake of fighting but I saw it looks like this may sit in courts for a long time. Has anyone else heard the same?

You knew the interest that would be charged but still took the loan. We're your parents so ignorant that they didn't tell you this was a bad idea? You are deadbeats and you probably welch on all your debts. I have no sympathy for people like you

Your boy Trump welched on a ton of loans and stiffed a lot of small business owners. You said it was a sign of how smart he was, not evidence of his moral failures. So what is it? Only “rich guys” on the tee vee get a free ride?

Which states are taxing the forgiveness as income?

IRS should also consider this taxable.

I’m not against this student debt cancellation, but we really need to start teaching basic financial literacy in our schools, about how loans work, interest rates, evaluation of cost versus outcome, etc. otherwise it is going to be the same thing in ten years.

Student loans make sense when you are working towards a productive, well paying position, like being a doctor or lawyer or engineer, but there needs to be an evaluation of whether or not a loan is a worthy investment into your future, and we aren’t giving out 17-18 year olds the skills to do that.

Student loans compound interest daily. They are as bad as credit cards.

Trust me, 17 year-olds signing loan docs don’t know any of this or how long it will reasonably take to pay for the loans. The authority figures they trust all them to take the debt.

The whole system is a sign of the degeneracy of the American business and political elite.

Biden gets a win for announcing this whole thing. Courts will prevent it from happening. Biden gets the win, GOP becomes the bad guy for challenging in the courts. This rallies the D base. Biden won't lose most independents once this gets overturned.

In less than 30 years the US spent over $100 BB subsidizing corn thanks to lobbying from big agriculture.

The US government spends a lot of money on things that not everyone likes.

Student loan forgiveness will help tons of people. Sorry you don't like it, boomers.

Don't disagree, but it won't get past the courts.

I see your point, but not sure about it. Several immigrant friends, mosty apolitical, are livid about the stupidity of all this.

I think a lot of people are ticked about this and it cuts across demographic groups.

How about we stop subsidizing corn instead.

I’d be fine if we stopped subsidizing political churches, too. Preacher can pay tax on his private jet.

Deal -- as long as we start taxing all universities and non-profits, of course.

Deal?

We don’t provide subsidies to political action nonprofits. Many churches have dispensed with any notion of charity and are political action nonprofits or discriminatory clubs now. See the difference?
