I'm a woman and I regularly drive 10 hours each way to visit my parents, and if its just a long weekend, sometimes I only have two days to 'rest up' in between. I also drove coast to coast with a then four year old and drove for 8 hours each day for 5 days. Why wouldn't your DH be able to do this?

Over 65 and in June I drove for 13 hours and over a thousand miles.

Did the OP ever come back to explain why she is so worried? Like does her husband have a medical condition that could make this dangerous?

Well I am confident I could do it, but I’d never let him do this.

Lots of kids today don't drive. It is not that unusual. 2021 is not like 1985 where every 16 year old is dying to learn.
And explains a lot about all the issues GenZ has.

I’ve noticed this also. The only two teens living on my block do not drive (18 and 19). I was DYING to get out at their age.

In DC (and NY), many kids don't actually need to drive, so they are not usually dying to get out there and drive a car to get their freedom. They've had the freedom to go places on their own since middle school. So that's the attitude part. Also, in DC you cannot sit for the permit test until after you turn 16. So for those who did want to get a license, those who turned 16 after March 2020, and those who were 16 earlier, but planned to wait until summer to start the process, now soon to be 18 year olds, are way behind because they could not get the permit easily due to COVID, then they needed to get the 40 hours in-car training, then they needed to get in line with all the other kids who turned 16 during 18 months of COVID to try to get a spot to take the road test, then they have to function under a provisional license for at least 6 months (IIRC). There is a backlog. Lots of kids will be 18 or 19 before they are fully licensed drivers.

I haven’t read the replies….but ha. I’m laughing at this. Your poor husband. So weird that you treat him like a child!

I swear I’m trying not to pile on, but I literally just got out of the car having drive five and a half hours. By myself. At night. In the rain. I’m fine. Driving back tomorrow.

Yeah - I would like to hear more about what you “allow” him to do.

Do you always carry his testicles in your purse? (or just sometimes).

Gosh, if you're concerned about your husband driving for some health reason, just send your daughter.

I drove myself 7 hours to visit a college by myself at 17. Drove up early one day. Stayed over in a dorm room with a friend. Drove home the next day after breakfast. No big deal.

You think six hours is long? LOL. Sometimes I clock almost three hours A DAY depending on my workload. That's just errands around Washington DC!
