Dogs in stores now?

It's against FDA regulations for dogs and other animals to be in grocery stores. Period. Keep your filthy animals at home, idiots. Hopefully one day you get a big a fine. One can only hope they start enforcing the law.

Yeah, because it is such a wonderful idea to let an animal that often eats its own vomit and feces into stores where people get food. I hope you get arrested for breaking the law.

FYI there are people that eat their own vomit and feces too.

Without needing to say many, many dogs do NOT do this. I've had 6 and they've been about as disgusted by vomit or feces as the average human.

Taking your dog into a store can cause an allergic reaction. Either from breathing in the dander or you irresponsibly letting your dog lick someone.

Well I'm allergic to perfumes and heavy scents. And I cannot require people not to douse themselves in it. You live in a community, not a bubble. You will be exposed to things that are negative, across the spectrum.

So . . . I guess, avoid dog-friendly stores? I can't avoid "no perfumed people" stores. And those FAR exceed dogs in stores.

I will take my dog anywhere I please, so long as I'm allowed to do so.

I am reading all these childish comments, and seeing the name-calling, by people who don't like dogs in stores. And honestly, the nastiness just makes me want to take them more. So keep it up. As to your judgment, name-calling, etc. I can live with that. Even more, because I have dogs, I can HAPPILY live with that and not care at all.

Have at it.

You must not be that allergic.

Also, it is impossible to avoid dogs because people take them into stores that are not dog friendly. I’m another person with a severe dog allergy and I literally double check everywhere I go and still encounter dogs in places that are not supposed to be dog friendly. It was one thing 10 years ago when people just brought their dogs to pet smart and Home Depot but these days I encounter them in grocery stores that specifically say “no pets”.

Well, there’s this from the FDA Food Code (2017):

6-501.115 Prohibiting Animals.
(A) Except as specified in ¶¶ (B) and (C) of this section, live animals may not be allowed on the PREMISES of a FOOD ESTABLISHMENT. Pf

Food Establishment.
(1) "Foodestablishment"meansanoperationthat:
(a) stores, prepares, packages, serves, vends food directly to the consumer, or otherwise provides FOOD for human consumption such as a restaurant; satellite or catered feeding location; catering operation if the operation provides FOOD directly to a CONSUMER or to a conveyance used to transport people; market; vending location; conveyance used to transport people; institution; or FOOD bank; and
(b) relinquishes possession of FOOD to a CONSUMER directly, or indirectly through a delivery service such as home delivery of grocery orders or restaurant takeout orders, or delivery service that is provided by common carriers.

This morning, I was at the Target in Bethesda and saw a couple with a small dog casually shopping. No one blinked. Later I saw a different woman with a little dog upstairs in Trader Joe's, which is a GROCERY store. As a public health matter, since when are dogs allowed in grocery stores? For that matter, Target does sell food, too.

Did I miss the memo?

I don’t know if anyone answered your question, but no, pets are not allowed in grocery stores in DC. Specifically, neither Target nor Trader Joe’s allow pets. It’s their corporate policy. So no, any random dog isn’t allowed in a grocery store. REAL Service animals are obviously different. I assume all the jerks who bring their pet dog into the grocery store are just that - jerks.

Saw a dog today in Target in Burke (Va). I asked an employee about it, "are dogs allowed?" in a non judgemental tone. Though was shocked that he said yes. And I'm sure that's not right.

wow, I am surprised at all these negative comments about dogs. Why so much anger, people? Yes, in Europe, people take their dogs on public transit and into shopping malls. And most people are fine with it. WE are about to get a small dog and yes, I will take him with me as much as possible when I am out and about, as long as it is legal. Will probably get a backpack carrier. Why would it bother so many of you?

Mine freaks out lately. She still doesn't go shopping with me.
