I notice there is a constant cruel/malicious/spiteful tone in posts about dog owners on DCUM. Often unwarranted.

It’s not just in this thread; it’s in many dog threads. Also, I notice this same tone in threads about single people/posters (often with these same words and phrases).

I can’t help but wonder if this over-the-top acerbic reaction is a way of justifying one’s own lifestyle. For the life of me, I’ll never understand why someone would tell someone that no one likes them and they are pathetic because they find companionship in a dog.

Ladies (I doubt there are men doing this), people who make life choices that are different from yours shouldn’t threaten you. Really, there is no need to disparage others because they are childless, single, possibly lonely, ….or other things you deem to be lesser than. Remember, you might find yourself this way one day.

Plus, you might just be wrong.

Why do you doubt men are doing this? Is this just a feeling you have? Anything to back this up or are you one of DCUM’s regular misogynists?

I think all of that is weird, too. You might be married today and divorced this time next year and perhaps having a dog as a companion will help with the hurt. When I lost my daughter at 5 months, the rescue dog I adopted helped me not kill myself. Sorry if that makes me pathetic and sad and lonely and dumb.

Thank you, PP, and I’m very sorry about your daughter.

Some people here seem to think they’ll never be in need of animal companionship.

It’s 100% my assumption, and I admit I could be wrong. My reasoning is based on my past experience with mean girls in school. Its been a while, but I remember the exact same acerbic language; women usually try to hurt and destroy emotionally.

I welcome being corrected.

This. The people making the raging, frothing posts against “dog people” are pathetic, sad, angry little people with low self esteem. Lashing out gives them that little boost of endorphins they so desperately need. Sad.

As you made the assertion, the ball is in your court to show it is true. You won’t be able to - any more than someone can show you are wrong wrt the PPs on this thread. Your assumption does show a bias against women which undercuts your other points.

It’s an assumption. I’m fine being wrong, which I stated. If a male posted one of the quotes in my original post, let me know. There’s not really another way to prove it right or wrong.

Either way, my main point is that the language is unnecessarily cruel, and I think it shows some insecurity with those posters’ lives. Well-adjusted people don’t say the following things about strangers.

Dogs are not people. Dogs are animals. Dogs do not belong in stores.

This morning, I was at the Target in Bethesda and saw a couple with a small dog casually shopping. No one blinked. Later I saw a different woman with a little dog upstairs in Trader Joe's, which is a GROCERY store. As a public health matter, since when are dogs allowed in grocery stores? For that matter, Target does sell food, too.

Did I miss the memo?

Isn’t that against health code or something? I’d report it.

OP here. Did not realize thread was moved over here.

Thanks, PP, for going back to my original post and the point of my post. The issue is GROCERY STORES. Where do I report this? Montgomery a County.

I agree with most of your post but you lose credibility with your pot shot at women. I find there is complete gender equity when it comes to being unnecessarily cruel on the Internet.

Shhhh -- don't tell the dog nuts, they'll just get triggered again when you say their furbaby isn't a real human.

I used to work in an upscale grocery store in DC where entitled people feel entitled to do and say whatever without consideration of other shoppers and staff. When people would come in with their very obvious non-service dogs, other customers would get snippy and even angry AT ME for allowing them in. Unless it’s a marked service dog who has been trained to not bother anyone or anything, as well as to not “use the facilities” on the floor, just leave your dog somewhere else. All of you super self-entitled dog owners are just that, self-entitled where rules, norms, and laws don’t apply to you. That attitude and behavior are more telling about you than those who follow rules and expect society to do so as well.

Wrong, nobody is anti-dog. That's just a facile attempt to distract from the real issue, which is that more and more dog owners are breaking the rules left and right.

Many dog owners are getting increasingly selfish and rude, pure and simple. No consideration for other people anymore.

+1

Don’t bring your pet dog to stores and especially not to places that sell food. It’s gross. That’s not a personal attack, it’s just common decency. I notice Mr Wordy up there didn’t bother to police the posts by nasty dog owners on this thread.

Why do you allow them in then? Do your job!
