Dogs in stores now?

Take it up with the stores and the employees. I don't disagree, but if they are allowed in, then fine. I'm just annoyed by the stores that have clearly posted "NO DOGS" and then everyone that works there ignores the people coming in with their teacup poodles and other 10 lb dogs.

Makes me want to bring mine and see what they'd do....all 120 lbs of him.

When people would come in with their very obvious non-service dogs, other customers would get snippy and even angry AT ME for allowing them in. Unless it’s a marked service dog who has been trained to not bother anyone or anything, as well as to not “use the facilities” on the floor, just leave your dog somewhere else. All of you super self-entitled dog owners are just that, self-entitled where rules, norms, and laws don’t apply to you. That attitude and behavior are more telling about you than those who follow rules and expect society to do so as well.

Why wasn't it addressed?

I notice there is a constant cruel/malicious/spiteful tone in posts about dog owners on DCUM. Often unwarranted.

It’s not just in this thread; it’s in many dog threads. Also, I notice this same tone in threads about single people/posters (often with these same words and phrases).

I can’t help but wonder if this over-the-top acerbic reaction is a way of justifying one’s own lifestyle. For the life of me, I’ll never understand why someone would tell someone that no one likes them and they are pathetic because they find companionship in a dog.

Ladies (I doubt there are men doing this), people who make life choices that are different from yours shouldn’t threaten you. Really, there is no need to disparage others because they are childless, single, possibly lonely, ….or other things you deem to be lesser than. Remember, you might find yourself this way one day.

Plus, you might just be wrong.

Wrong, nobody is anti-dog. That's just a facile attempt to distract from the real issue, which is that more and more dog owners are breaking the rules left and right.

Many dog owners are getting increasingly selfish and rude, pure and simple. No consideration for other people anymore.

+1

Don’t bring your pet dog to stores and especially not to places that sell food. It’s gross. That’s not a personal attack, it’s just common decency. I notice Mr Wordy up there didn’t bother to police the posts by nasty dog owners on this thread.

That’s Ms. Wordy to you!

Yes, asking people to not bring dogs to places where they aren’t allowed is not a personal attack. I never said otherwise.

What I said is “I notice there is a constant cruel/malicious/spiteful tone in posts about dog owners on DCUM. Often unwarranted.”

Then I gave examples.

Maybe you didn’t read the thread, but there is a pattern of cruel, acerbic comments being directed toward dog owners—well beyond a simple request or a calm discussion.

So much better than most people’s little darlings, screaming, crying, getting in the way, and making nuisances of themselves while their parents pretend they don’t exist.
Leave your kids at home! They’re shouldn’t be at the store in a pandemic anyway.

I do leave my kids home when shopping or contain them in a cart!

And, I can guarantee they are not going to pee on the floor, chew/lick anything in the store, bite/scratch any strangers, bark and get into fights with other people in the store or, approach any strangers who might be allergic to them and rub up on them.

Dogs don't need to be in the grocery store (unless a true service dog)!

If your kids are doing those things you have bigger issues. Mines in an enclosed stroller not bothering anyone.

It was not my job to police people. When you try to point out peoples’ bad behavior, they can get super defensive and even aggressive. Would you want that response to your son or daughter who’s just a cashier in a store? I think not.

Some people are allergic to dogs. They shed and drool and can cause some serious allergic reactions.

They also fight with one another. I think that if dogs (except service dogs) are allowed in a store then the owner is fully responsible for allergic reactions, injuries, cleaning up messes, damaged merchandise, anything else caused by their pet.

The dogs probably don’t enjoy it anyway. They are bored. Dogs are supposed to be running around outside.

people are dirtier than dogs most of the time

I do have a question, though. My dog trainer told me to take my dog to Home Depot for socialization. Is that acceptable now since it's a hardware store? Or is she just one of the crazy dog ladies?

I take mine in Home Depot. He’s small so I put his dog bed in the cart. I wouldn’t take him in the grocery store.

I agree. Dogs and old people are my two favorite things in this world.

People are animals too though. That is a scientific fact, not an opinion. And frankly, some people have lower IQs than my border collie, so……
