DCPS Double Down on Travel Policy

That's not what it says.

DP. That’s exactly what it says in the last paragraph:

“After you travel:
Get tested with a viral test 3-5 days after travel AND stay home and self-quarantine for a full 7 days after travel.
Even if you test negative, stay home and self-quarantine for the full 7 days.”

That's for INTERNATOINAL travel, not domestic.

"Per DC Health’s Guidance for Travel, unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals who have traveled domestically to any place other than Maryland or Virginia must either (1) not attend school for 10 days after returning, or (2) not attend school until tested for COVID-19 three to five days after returning AND receive a negative COVID-19 viral test.

Per DC Health’s Guidance for Travel, unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals who have traveled internationally must either (1) not attend school for 10 days after returning, or (2) not attend school for seven days after returning, get tested for COVID-19 three to five days after returning, AND receive a negative COVID-19 viral test. Even if the test is negative, the individual must still not attend school for seven days."

Honestly, anyone paying close attention to the DCPS travel policy at this stage has too much time on her hands. Tell your kids to lie about having visited grandma in California or whatever. And if they let slip the truth, tell the administrators that the kids are confused and that there was no such travel. What are they going to do? Investigate? Accuse you of lying? Never happen. The whole thing is absurd. No one will ever find out or ever ask.

I actually won’t tell my kid to lie at all. I don’t need to compound all of this by giving him mixed messages. He can say what he wants and I’ll deal with the school if they try to send him home. Just let them try!

Someone should remind the city of this too. Bars are great, but schools will kill you.

I don't know how you sleep at night. A vaccine for kids is a few months away. What is wrong with waiting? I truly do not understand the ignorance here.

Two years. Two years. How long is long enough? The rule does not apply to anyone else. Your kid is more likely to get covid from you going about your day in a fully opened city than they are from another kid at school.

DCPS is dated June 25 and relates specifically to schools. So that is the one to follow.

Except it says, "as per DC Health..."

It doesnt surprise me in the least that DCPS central office misquoted DC Health.

Thank god my kid is young enough to not really know what day of the week it is yet. I don't even have to tell her to lie.

It's not long enough until kids are vaccinated. Period. And it's been 17 months, not two years. What do you mean my "day" in a full opened city? My day were I, fully vaxxed, minimize my exposure to strangers and wear a mask indoors to avoid getting COVID? We are in a global pandemic. Are you serious?

I truly hope my kid doesn't encounter yours in school. You clearly have messed up values.

It will be two years by the time that happens. You can't avoid everyone.

That's funny, because we're vaxxed, wear masks and have stuck to our bubble since March 2020. We just don't see the point of an elementary school children only travel ban when everything else is wide open. Heck, we even shut up and waited until Ward 3 was finally (after everyone else) allowed to get vaccinated. We'd like to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with the family we havent seen in years. Two years is too much to ask of people and we don't want to teach our kids to lie or scam the system. So tell me about my values again.
