HOA pool ban for prior vandalism of HOA property

I feel bad for the kid(s). Seems all in nit right in that household. In addition, Type I Diabetes which may or may not be well managed can create be difficult for a tween. Not justifying their behavior but the duration(7 years) is ridiculous. One year, sure. And on another year under parent supervision if you want. HOA lost their minds.

There is no way this was an isolated event. Considering the HOA had to vote on this, and gave such disparate punishments to the two different families, I'm guessing they feel it was justified.

Unless the 11 year old tried to drown a kid in the pool, a 7 year ban is way harsh.

He sounds like a punk-a$$ juvenile delinquent and the other pool patrons are probably thrilled. A kid who does this is not a well-behaved considerate pool patron.

If these were my kids, I'd take the hint. I'd paint pink and purple stripes on my house, park my car on the lawn, stop mowing, and move.

Bye HOA.

There's a reason we bought a house with no HOA.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. I’m sure the HOA DOES hope they move.

There is definitely a lot more to this story, otherwise the two kids would have gotten the same punishment. They didn’t.

And yes I totally believe these kids parents are psycho like PP. I’m sure the HOA would love nothing more than for them to move, or do something criminal where charges can be pressed.

Actually, most don’t. That excuse is threadbare.

Oh please, an 11 year broke the door on a little library. Get him the electric chair!

I remember when we found out Sarah Palin's son had slashed the tired of school buses on school property in high school, wasn't arrested or punished, then what do you know - 5 years later as an adult he's attacking his father with a gun and has multiple arrest records.

Yes we have the same problem in Baltimore. Children not being held accountable for crimes, most using handguns. We call that a cultural problem here….

"The door got broken off..."

OMG

What about, "My child broke the door so he's now going to be punished for the next year BY ME."

No wonder the kids are shits.

Absolutely NO RESPONSIBILITY.

Anonymous wrote:This seems crazy. Have them pay to replace little library and books. Done. This is very petty vandalism. The pool doesn’t have anything to do with what they did. Banning them for years insane and probably unlawful. The parents could and should sue if they enforce this. Pretty sure a court would side with the family, unless there are other documented issues that have been going on

The pool and the library are HOA property. But I'd love for this family to go to court over this and the HOA to get a police report involved.

The HOA already came up with a plan for replacement and decided not to press charges. But even if they did, go ahead. This would be expunged from
an 11 yr old’s record. The parents pay into HOA and have a right to the pool.

HOAs always have a rule book. Vandalizing the community (not to mention whatever else they've no doubt been doing) is violating their agreement, so the HOA owes them nothing.

The best thing would be to move, if the pool is that important to them.

Wrong. According to the insidenova article, the juveniles had no history with the HOA. Also, neither of the kids who are residents broke the "library."

That's fine--no reason for the HOA to ban him for 7 years.
