This is where you are wrong. Look at the published ECNL Rules:

"The ECNL Champions League will have 29 Automatic Qualifiers based solely on conference games as outlined above. After the Automatic Qualifiers are determined, all other teams will be eligible for wildcard consideration. The wildcard pool will be ranked based on points-per-game from ALL games played - including conference games and national event games. The top three (3) teams in the wildcard pool will qualify for the ECNL Champions League.

I'm still looking for the rule that says your kid can't/won't play.

1. It isn’t ECNL’s fault if a sub is uncommitted. Lots of players are uncommitted. Do you seriously think coaches are going to watch committed players?
2. Your coach is free to roster based on the needs of the team and players. Knowing that kids are still uncommitted a good coach who cares about their players will make sure that uncommitted players will get the exposure they need. Other teams are often in the same situation. “National Championships” don’t bring players in as much as long lists of commitments on the website.

If your coach is going all in to win a National Championship and sits your kid that really is between you and the coach. There are 4-5 “local” ECNL teams in the area, surely your player could have been a starter on one of them.

You’ve established nothing. I’m just another parent guiding their kid through the same process that you are. I have offered several reasons why your kid will be fine and instead of accepting your situation you’d rather be stubborn and angry.

Your kid isn’t a starter, that doesn’t mean your kid isn’t talented, but it does mean that you have ALWAYS had a uphill battle. Regardless of the league patch college coaches don’t generally prioritize kids who are not even the best players on their club team. No matter what your club coach sold you about the recruiting prospects if your kid is not a starter YOUR kid needs to double the effort and in spite of that nothing is still guaranteed.

If your kid is in fact a rising senior you really need to go forward with a better attitude and accept the real situation she is in. The showcase is what it is now. The format does not need to affect your players playing time but she likely has been a sub for some time now. You can’t complain about it now.

Talk to your coach about her potential usage and what the plan will be for her.

All I can say is that you have known for a while that your kid is either not a starter on this team or is new to this team and in a Covid year I have some sympathy for your kid and others who are uncommitted under the worst of circumstances. But regardless of all of that, your coach will either do what is right for all the players or not. If not, one would hope that you tell the world who the coach was who sat uncommitted players in favor of committed players in a showcase.

College coaches most likely still have to see committed players

By the way, coaches also come to showcases to check in on their recruits - kids who have committed but not yet signed. The tryout has just begun when you're verbally committed. Not because college coaches are in the habit of yanking offers, but because they want to verify what they've selected, think about what skills/strengths that player brings to the table, see how they're developing, think about how they'll use them on the roster, etc. My daughter's coach came to see her play after she committed and I think it was more than a friendly show of support.

So...there is a reason for committed players to go to and play in showcases.

What if the committed player helps the team play good soccer/ makes other players look better. Can see both sides of this one. Solution is start the uncommitted players and sub in committed?

And why make the committed players go through all the expenses and time suck when there are uncommitted players already spending the time and money that need to be seen. Yes the committed players are strong and thry will of course go if they must but would rather not. All the uncommitted players are very good.

It makes no sense to me. Travel right now is actually expensive with air tickets and rental cars really steep.

To be clear..the players want to all go of course..they have a blast...but the parents are tapped out after this year..not the time for unneeded expenses.

To be clear..the players want to all go of course..they have a blast...but the parents are tapped out after this year..not the time for unneeded expenses.

From going to all of the nationals showcases that were cancelled? Smh.
