Thanks MCSL. Like most governing bodies, you are out of touch and suck at your jobs.

What’s sick and twisted is the board says we should thank them for even being able to have meets. Even though meets could be held without their stupid waiver and fascist meet policies. They seem to think that swimming glorified time trials is what everyone wants and that the swimming piece is what mcsl is about. Mcsl is about the cheers, the spirits, the crowds behind lanes, the lines at the snack bar, the crowded clerk of course area, the chaos of warmups, kids on each other’s shoulders, biting the relay cards. To the board it’s about swimming and the times, to the swimmers parents and coaches and coaches it’s about everything but that and that’s the shame in this whole thing.

We should all be fearful though, the board warned that cyber bullying is not ok and they will report us because trying to usurp their authority is bullying

I forgot about the kids biting the corners off of relay cards. Thank you for reminding me. It sounds so silly but those traditions are awesome. That is when my kid fell in love with swimming. I hope they can still do things like that.

It feels like there are several layers of disagreement going on here. The MCSL current regulations are far more stringent than the state of Maryland and MoCo. There seems to be disagreement and confusion about the rules for unvaccinated kids but can’t we all agree that vaccinated individuals shouldn’t be limited, per the CDC (if you want to wear a mask - fine your choice). Thinking about our pool, there will be a significant number of kids fully vaccinated by time trials. Would be nice for them to unmask. And also coaches and parent volunteers. I would be happy to submit my vax card to stay out of a mask. Also, 10,000 people at Preakness. Probably okay to have 200 at a swim meet. Feels like a lot of cutting our our nose to spite our face. Without the fun, MCSL will die...

12 and up are just starting to be vaccinated. It takes 6-8 weeks. They will barely be vaccinated if they are.

Where are you getting 6-8 weeks? And what does “barely” matter? If you are two weeks past your second shot, you are fully vaccinated. Pfizer requires 3 weeks between shots and 2 weeks after last shot for full immunity. Over half of my daughter’s class was vaccinated this past weekend. Everyone of those kids will have full immunity by the first meet. All my other daughter’s friends who are 16 are fully vaccinated already. Those who are not vaccinated can wear masks. But a significant portion of swimmers and parents will be fully vaccinated by time trials at our pool.

Good for them. You are really selfish given most teams are heavy on 12 and under and they aren't vaccinated and your kids will be barely vaccinated. I wouldn't want my non-vaccinated kids near yours given your attitude. All swimmers should be masked outside the water. These vaccines are not 100%

Haven’t we established that your kids just shouldn’t participate this summer? No vaccine out there, for any illness, is 100%, so if that’s what you are holding out hope for, please do you when it comes to you and your family, but you don’t get to dictate that the rest of us live that way.

That is not what the previous poster is saying. The PP is pointing to the fact that there will be plenty of unvaccinated children on deck. Let's not make the summer unsafe for them and for the older teens who are coaching them and swimming in the meets with them. No need to be so rude.

It’s actually not clear what this poster really wants. He/she called a poster selfish who suggested the kids that are unvaccinated wear masks and those that are vaccinated don’t have to. I don’t know how that is selfish since that is in line with the CDCs guidelines. It appears this poster doesn’t want MCSL to run this summer, therefore it shouldn’t and anyone who feels otherwise is selfish or a bad parent. There’s a lot of ridiculous virtue signaling going on every time this person posts.

Dear God, there is no such thing as barely fully vaccinated!

Thank you. I am not trying to be combative. It just seems that MCSL should fall in line with the medical community, the state, the county and the CDC. Masks for unvaccinated, no masks for vaccinated. And to the poster who said we should stop complaining, I don’t think raising this issue now to get clarification is really a complaint. It seems pretty reasonable. I will be right there with everyone supporting and volunteering when the time comes. I am trying to safely give our kids a little bit of what the rest of the country has had for a while.

Have teams collect vaccine records with the team registration.

And if the county guidance changes, then change the guidance again. MCSL should follow the CDC and county.

Could someone who wants vaccinated individuals to wear masks please explain their thinking?

Right. Why is MCSL making up their own rules and second-guessing the CDC? How does it make sense that Camden Yards can operate at capacity with 40k spectators but we can’t hold a B meet or a A meet with observers?

It seems so obvious to me that people from both sides flip/flop on following the CDC guidance or not depending on their own personal pov of things. I have never thought much of the CDC (quite frankly, they have been exposed as pseudo political pawns), so any guidance from them is meaningless to me. But, there are plenty of people who "followed the CDC" for the past 12 mos. who now do not "follow" the CDC. MCSL seems to be in that camp....to the detriment of their own organization and their collective reputation as leadership.

Sorry but one of my pet peeves is people on both sides flip flopping. My position has always been clear: we will follow the CDC guidelines. That means unvaccinated people do not have to wear masks right now. My unvaccinated tween will have to wear a mask until he jumps in the pool and I have accepted that. But all the other MCSL guidelines are in conflict with the CDC. My older vaccinated kid should be able to attend outside swim practice without a mask. Period.

Your older vaccinated kid will survive wearing a mask to swim practice. It is really not that big of a deal.

How do you know it isn't a big deal?

Seems like the Board is starting to have a change of heart I hope. This was sent to team reps this afternoon:

“ We know that many of you are seeing the recent news announcements by the Governor, the CDC, and Montgomery County. Please note that:
· We, too, are aware of recent announcements made by Montgomery County on Friday and that the County Council is meeting this week;

· We are monitoring these recent developments, including changes that the Montgomery County Council may approve acting as the Board of Health in the Sixth Amended Board of Health Regulation to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the County, and we are evaluating how those changes may affect our existing policy.”

Great. PP here (the selfish one who wants MCSL to follow CDC/county/state guidelines for outdoor spaces). That seems like a reasonable response from the MCSL. I will cross my fingers reasonable heads prevail. We all want a fun, meaningful, safe summer for our kids. And, I should say, I am nervous too. We lost friends’ parents to COVID and I don’t take this lightly. But I am trying to be reasonable by suggesting we follow the guidance.

I’m with you - MCSL should just say follow the existing guidelines, with the caveat that some pools may impose more restrictive guidelines if they want, just like some businesses are.

Good. Hopefully this group of anti-science leaders will come to their collective senses. We really need better critical thinkers and leadership in these types of community organizations.

Masks no longer required for kids sports in MoCo.

But still required by MCSL along with social distancing, reduced capacity, and bunch of other rules and regulations.

Because kids aren't vaccinated. It is not a big deal to wear a mask on deck.

Not sure if you have newer information but the Board emailed team reps last night saying that they are working on revised guidelines following the MoCo relaxations and will communicate those “very soon”.

Glad to hear they are reconsidering. Between 12-15 starting to get vaccinated, adults mostly vaccinated and being outdoors and in the chlorinated pool, the risk is limited and no sense keeping meets restricted if the whole county is wide open by the time the meets start based on science.

Glad to see some folks are still trying to handle covid responsibly especially when so many kids swimming are not eligible to be vaccinated.

If you base it on science, we still have a duty to protect our 12 and under and the 12-15 are just starting to get vaccinated. Kids and adults are packed closely together at these meets and there is often little distancing. Look, we get it. You base your worth on your kid winning. Lets just say your kid is the winner in every race. You can now brag and the rest of us can consider participating with strict rules to keep our kids safe.

I find this response really mean spirited. I for one want my child competing bc it has been so brutal physically and mentally for them all year. Kids don't get the infection as easily and given the incredibly high inoculation rates in the county (my children are also vaccinated) I am happy to let them race. If your child is not vaccinated, just keep them out of the pool but there is no reason for your fears to run my life.
