I’m with you there. The problem is not that she has security, it’s that she is pushing policies that make the rest of us less safe while ensuring SHE is safe.

People calling for defunding the police are doing so to make people MORE safe not less. They're not pro crime. They are anti police killing private citizens willy nilly. Which you obviously know but are still snarkily pretending means something different.

Everyone can't have a private security team like AOC. That is the hypocrisy. She said herself what she meant by defund. That means the rest of us without the means to hire private security get to live with crime ridden communities while the elite get protection.

I know, I know “defund the police” is a moronic catchphrase because although a tiny percentage of the people who say it truly mean “let’s get rid of the police altogether!” what most people is “let’s reconfigure the police forces so that they serve everyone to the best of their ability. Let’s get rid of the militarized police. Let’s have a larger mental health and social work presence, because a lot of the things for which the police are called would be better served by having a social worker or someone who works in mental health or drug addiction. Let’s make sure that Black people feel confident that if they call the police that they’ll get the same treatment a White who calls the police would get.” Etc. It’s more like “let’s reimagine the police.”

Dumb slogan, but there we are. Now you can stop being angry about the phrase and focus on the fact that right wing media has whipped a lot of unhinged right wingers into a hateful froth against AOC and she gets more threats of violence and sexual violence and sadism against her, so she has to fork over for private security because that’s not a service that the police provide. So the next time you hear Tucker or Ted Cruz or your friend Dick going off about AOC, listen for the freakish sexual/violent obsession with her. If it’s your friend, tell them what you hear in their voice.

what are you and PP even talking about? AOC was very clear that defund means defund. Not some weird machination, word twisting nonsense. She meant exactly what she said. She wants to defund the police. No need to revise history. She said it. She doesn't deserve death threats but lets just consider the implications of what she is advocating for while she is protected in a way normal Americans are not.

She said she wants to defund the police. Not reform them. Not move them into other positions. Defund. She was very clear. Your quote above does nothing to help your position. You need to look up the words defund and reform. Words have meaning.

AOC to my knowledge does want the police out of schools and way less police presence in the majority of POC communities regardless of the number of reported crimes. She does not feel that any person, regardless of color, adequately serves their community once trained by the institution because of the history of policing in this country (i.e. slave patrols).

Do I fully agree with her? No. I think it takes an extremely mentally tough person to go through police training classroom and field and not start to harbor negative prejudices about certain groups of people... BUT those people do exist, as rare as they are.

FYI. Guns don't come across the "open borders" into the US, they cross the border and exit the US.

The fully automatic machineguns that are being seized recently are definitely coming from Mexico and points south. You can’t buy new machineguns in the US, only antique ones made before 1986. The brand new Chinese AK47’s, HK 416’s and Galil ACE’s that are showing up in gang hands in American cities are definitely being smuggled in from Mexico. This isn’t subject to debate. You cannot buy those in the US. They are simply not imported here, PERIOD.
