Is this the same young politician who demands:
“Defund the Police!”? What is she thinking? Inner-city crime is skyrocketing this past year. |
Conservatives should probably stop threatening her with death and rape. Every time Tucker brings her up, she gets a flood of violent threats.
He does it on purpose. |
Why doesn’t AOC want regular people to have police protection? |
99.8% of people don’t get death and rapes threats on a daily basis. Do you? |
Am I the only one who thinks that is not much money to spend? |
It's sad that she has to do this. But it makes her statements about defunding the police odd. Who would protect her then? Private security? I'm sure private security would be antithetical to the rest of her beliefs. |
I make a little more than AOC and I can’t afford $3-5K/month extra. That’s really stretching her budget. This is likely the on top of Capitol Hill Police escorts that she gets gratis. |
when she was a regular person she did not demand any personal security. she needs it now because of the wackos who watch OANN, Newsmax, Fox & other right wing media. |
You are crazy. How many people have an extra $3-5,000/month? |
The salary is $174,000. So after taxes that's what? Maybe $130,000? So she is paying between 36 and 60K of that for security. Yes, that's a lot! |
Wait, what?! Isn't the point of the OPP that she has private security (cite please)? Presumably, she has this, because she doesn't think publicly-funded LE is sufficient to protect her. That position isn't inconsistent with defunding the police. |
99.8% of people don’t have a spare $3-5,000 per month to spend on security - the very security AOC disdains. |
You DK t seem to understand what defunding the police really means, do you? |
Source? |
The majority of members of Congress House and Senate do not get federal law enforcement protection or a driver. Only a handful of members in senior most positions do. Some might have a vehicle, but their staffer is probably schlepping them around.
She can't ask or make federal LEs provide protection because they probably can't. There may be provisions, however for payment of this kind of private protection if there is a documented threat. Which I believe she has but google will tell us more. What does paying for private protection have to do with defunding the police? It's probably more of the rapey and torture threats she's gotten in the last two years that warrant the protection versus the number of times people make typical death threats without thinking of the consequences to many members of Congress. |
