As did Andrew Breitbart. Nevermind. Run! |

BU is way more prestigious in my mind, but I’m from New England....I think “party school” for Tulane and research, biomedical engineering, and communications for BU. Oh, Elie Weisel, MLK, and hockey, too.
But “prestige” is irrelevant. Very few kids will ever be deciding between those two. ONE day on BU’s campus and you’ll know whether you love it or hate it. If you want that traditional college lawn frat house feel, you would hate BU. If you want to be in the center of a city, riding the T and living among city people, pick BU. It still has the college dorm experience and all, but you’re literally in center city. It’s HUGE. No one sane could really choose between then based on prestige” |

Harvard, Princeton,Yale, Hopkins, MIT, Annapolis, West Point and Stanford are prestigious (for differing specialties)
That’s it. The rest are fighting to be king crap of turd mountain. |
| I guess BU, I mean it's ranked 30 spots higher. |
UMMM..., Duke, UNC, Vandy, Emory, Gatech, Davidson, Washington& lee, even UGA are more prestigious than Tulane and all in the southeast |
+1000 I'm not even from New England. My daughter enrolled in this school last year, but she's having such a great time in college, and there are many students of high caliber. Our kids don't even like parties, so we really like that the school doesn't have a strong atmosphere of that. And people keep saying there's no campus, but Boston itself is essentially the campus. Spending four years of college life in culturally stimulating Boston has significant advantages that can't be understood just by rankings. |
| These schools are totally different. Where does your kid want to live? If they want to live in the Northeast then probably BU. If they want to live in the South then go Tulane. |
|
BU |
| Beauty is in the eye if the beholder and all that. In my circles, Tulane is more prestigious. Old money Southern school. |
| I don’t have info on BU, but DD goes to Tulane and loves it. She’s active in her sorority and academic ECs, and has other like-minded peers. She’s also had good internship placements. It’s not all about partying, but she has learned to navigate that scene while balancing academics. NGL I enjoy visiting her during Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest. She’s also travelled abroad twice and has great connections with professors in her two majors. The experience has been busy and challenging but also very positive for her. |
If you are asking this question, you've never been to New Orleans. |
Name the four more prestigious schools. Keep in mind that Boston and Cambridge are two different places. |
Two of the schools you listed are in Cambridge. One is in Medford (conservatory in Boston, though). One is in Newton. |
+100 If you want your kid to go to BU, do not have them visit Tulane. It is a special mix of academics, location, weather, culture and a happy, laid back vibe that is very unique. |
