Which is more prestigious: BU or Tulane

Says the NOVA-then-transferred-to-GeorgeMason mom.

If you have to ask which is more “prestigious” , then that by itself probably tells you it doesn’t matter. Sure, we’d all agree that Harvard is better than southeast Missouri state, but splitting hairs on “prestige” among T25-T100 is asinine.

The locations are so different, from temperature to politics, that's like saying which is better, a sofa or an orange? If your child is trying to decide between these 2, have them visit and make the decision after. Trust me, they will like the vibe of one and not the other.

Your child will get out of whatever school they choose what they put into it. Either can lead to a great job, or no job

This is so rude. Not everybody’s child is choosing between Harvard and Yale.

NP- I think the analogy is pretty accurate though. Both are solid respectable cars - but not shiny prestige. The same goes for the question. If you are looking at BU/Tulane - prestige shouldn't really be part of the equation. Go to the school you like better for location, social scene, academic program, etc. The student who will make the most of college will be the one who succeeds coming out of either of these schools. It doesn't have to be an insult.

What an arrogant statement from a person with obsolete thinking.

Tulane.

If it were me, I would choose BU, but if you live in the South, Tulane would make more sense.

NP. Not rude. Just accurate. If you're going to play the prestige game, you need to have your eyes wide open. Your late model Accord or Camry is still "more prestigious" than the surplused taxi you could be driving (which, in this analogy would be community college I guess).

You prestige-chasers living in make-believe land wouldn't actually consider the trades for your children, even though this would give them long term job satisfaction and security. Who's really being rude here? At least some are being realistic about what we're talking about here, the snob factor.

And Tulane? In the Northeast people are just gonna say "huh?".

So Tulane and BU are a step above community college for kids that should be considering trade school? You are a complete idiot and obviously have no knowledge about the either school or the caliber of students that attend. Of course people are familiar with Tulane in the northeast.

Tulane graduates (the ones I know personally) are dopes and couldn't get in anywhere else. Thank God for money!

New Orleans, where the motto is "not so bad for a Caribbean city". And to be fair, it's much more well run than Port-au-Prince or Havana.

Thanks; that was my comment and I'm glad someone understood. Perhaps most of DCUM is not familiar with these cars? They are solid but not flashy cars that are very similar to each other.

Completely absurd. Everyone in DC knows Tulane. Everyone in New England knows Tulane. You’re talking nonsense

If you want a happy kid, Tulane. Otherwise, BU. That’s my take.
