Isn't it all just whispers on Facebook? Can someone point me to anything official from ACPS that states :"Children may not participate in Hybrid Learning unless their parents selected this as an option in December." That does not exist. All I've heard is "Katie's neighbor wants to change to Hybrid Learning and I heard the principal at Polk said no!" |
It's right in their FAQ: https://www.acps.k12.va.us/Page/3632
|
Thank you! LOL, didn't think to look in the FAQ. I guess I thought to much of ACPS that they'd make it clear instead of slipping it into the FAQ. |
This is particularly troublesome for me. In a previous life I was a LCSW in DC. Poor POC just do not respond to correspondence. They don't. Getting forms filled out takes multiple requests and tremendous amounts of follow up. Often it would require visits to the home. I do not believe that ACPS is prepared to exclude all of the FARM students for failing to turn in the form. That would indicate to me that there must be an exception to that rule for POC. That needs to be looked at. |
Along with all the official communication that we can’t switch, I personally emailed the principal and asked if we could switch from distance to hybrid and explained why. I was told no and to read the official comms from ACPS. I also know for a fact that our kid’s school got so many angry emails and requests that they have sent multiple emails to all parents reminding them that this is ACPS’ choice, not the school’s. |
Why? They know people are pissed, so they don't want to advertise it. But they know they need to put it somewhere, so...bury it. Again, like so much, it's performative. |
It's always performance art. I'm surprised they even bothered to bury it since, Hutchings/SB/Central Office live in a consequence free environment. Bet we see another sycophantic op-ed from PTAs/PTAC in the next few weeks. ![]() |
The GW principal has made this clear. It wasn't his decision, but he communicated it unambiguously. |
Once again, the people who have been doing the heavy lifting (principals and teachers) have to defend ACPS and Hutchings poor work and communication. They have purposely set up an bad dynamic between the schools and the parents so they don't have to deal with the fallout from their mess. I'm sure SB/ACPS/Hutchings are getting emails but totally different when you know people and their kids personally. And when you care. |
I still don't undertstand the no playground use thing. Ridiculous. I hope that policy changes at some point after return. |
From the FAQ's on the website:
Will my elementary child have recess? Each school principal will evaluate the feasibility of running recess based upon class scheduling, available staff and health protocols. When recess occurs, students will have physical activity during outdoor recess time. Due to health protocols, all playground equipment will remain off limits until further notice. Does anyone know what health protocols? And if there are health protocols, why aren't they being followed by Campagna's child care program? Why isn't the city following these health protocols? If they'd just say, "if the kids are equipment, we can't keep them far enough apart and we want to be very cautious", it would at least make some sense. Again, very poor communications. The new communications person is going to have the easiest job in the world. No where to go but up! |
Somebody needs to FOIA the response data and cross reference it against the FARM students who show up for Hybrid.
There's a story waiting for the front page of The Washington Post there I'd bet. |
Good luck with your FOIA request! I'm pretty sure their education reporter Hanna Natason has a signed picture of Hutchings on her bedside table in a heart shaped frame. I'm sure she'd be happy to write another puff piece about the heroic doctor. I hope every and any kid who shows up for Hybrid is allowed in. Even ACPS is better than nothing. |
My students are all FARM and they all chose to stay virtual. |
I get being a little annoyed by this but if you had any indication of wanting to be hybrid - you should
Have just put it - since they can’t stop you from Changing to back to virtual. I don’t get being sooooooo mad about it now. Give them a chance to open up and see how things are and I’m sure they will bring more back. The decision for concurrent allows this very easily. |
