OMG, have you ever met an old person? I am currently trying to find vax appointments for my 83 year old mother in Ward 3, my stepmom and dad in Montgomery county, and my former babysitter in Ward 5. All over 70. Not one of them would be able to navigate the website fast enough to get an appointment, or call for hours. It doesn't matter if they have broadband access or not (babysitter has a cell phone only). They don't have the patience and/or savvy to get appointments without help. Hell, I have patience AND savvy and haven't had any luck helping them.

There are people who can find disparity everywhere. DCHealth set up a system of increased access in the most impacted Wards (more inoculation sites) and we invented some sort of Ward 8 people are not "savvy" enough excuse. It is amazing really.

But I do believe like another poster suggested that we need to stop assuming that Ward 8 grammas are somehow computer illiterate.

“Having broadband access” is not the same as having working internet and a working computer in your home. Sure, there’s a Comcast hook up in your alley, but that doesn’t mean you have it in your home.

Seriously dude, find me one person in the city who wants wireless access but cannot get it. There are a dozen organization in the city tripping over themselves to provide internet access, computers, tablets etc. The number of orgs goes down constantly because there simply is not enough of a market for them. There are not enough people without to give to to justify seeking the donations ets.

Heck even DCPS gave out free computers and hotspots. (only mention because there is a poster who loves equating everything to DCPS)

OMG, have you ever met an old person? I am currently trying to find vax appointments for my 83 year old mother in Ward 3, my stepmom and dad in Montgomery county, and my former babysitter in Ward 5. All over 70. Not one of them would be able to navigate the website fast enough to get an appointment, or call for hours. It doesn't matter if they have broadband access or not (babysitter has a cell phone only). They don't have the patience and/or savvy to get appointments without help. Hell, I have patience AND savvy and haven't had any luck helping them.

Not everyone who has a computer/tablet or access to one or access to the internet using such a device knows how to use one such that they can figure out how to sign up for vaccine. Particularly older people, regardless of race.

DC HAS A PHONE SIGN UP. If that doesn't solve the 'access' problem, they could A) improve both the crashing of the web and telephone sign-ups (that would demonstrate their will to make Covid shots accessible to residents) and B) set up roving sign up vans or kioks at the grocery store or on the corner. I volunteer Charles, Elissa and Trayon for 1st shift.
