If DC cannot check ID when you go in for the vaccine what is stop someone from lying about their zip code?

I am literally on a call right now and two of the attendees are seniors who got their vaccines yesterday. I innocently asked where because I was curious about the logistics (and honestly, my in-laws in their 80s--but in a different ward--have not been able to get an appointment) and both said they were told that they cannot reveal where--in fact, they had to sign something. This is absolutely true.

All vaccines appointments should be made through an (improved) website, telephone and/or customer service kiosk or roving mobile sign up units. Everyone should have the same access according to their category (65+, teacher, whatever). NOT according to zip code. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

wut!??? You need to get more details. How are they not allowed to tell?

The reason they've been breaking some appointments out for only certain Zip codes is because residents of the Zip codes they're excluding from those slots have already taken a hugely disproportionate share of the vaccines. Seems like that would be a problem for any lawsuit to overcome. (As would the fact that only some spots are reserved for certain Zip codes, and the fact that what Zip code you live in is not a protected class.)

Also, PPP is ok with triaging by age or profession, but not by location - though its clear that living in a particular location makes you more vulnerable to the virus. The same yardstick is applied- those most vulnerable go first.

Perhaps nothing. The same nothing that's going to happen when they open it up to childcare providers or other areas where small businesses operate. Very easy to print out a fake document saying I work at a daycare inside my own home, or for a private nursery school that doesn't exist. Or at a restaurant etc etc. Small shops don't have corporate IDs....cheating will be rife.

Yup. Which is why I am glad the DCPS/DCPCS teachers are getting to go first. Easy for them to check ids, etc.

If a little fraud and some people getting vaccinated earlier than they're "supposed to" is the price of getting the vaccines administered, I'm OK with that (and I have a chronic disease that puts me at 3x risk of hospitalization or death if I get covid). They just need to start vaccinating as many people as possible as quickly as possible. Most people will follow the rules and not try to jump ahead.

Make sure you are signed up at whichever hospital you are a patient of, PP! That's your best bet.
