Oh, get over yourself. We're just telling Ward 3 to stop trying to undermine DC's attempts to get equitable distribution of vaccine. You are disgusting for suggesting that people only want to help underserved seniors because they are pandering for votes. --Ward 2 voter |
Had not thought of this, but this is probably exactly what is going on. There is really no other reason for the crazy system that has been set up especially now that the results are showing that it has resulted in no change. |
If Ward 3 is still getting more appointments, then perhaps they should get zero appointments until things even out a bit. |
This is NOT education! Do you really think that people who do not trust the vaccine are going to trust a politician getting a shot. And education here is not DCPS. It is the city getting out, boots on the ground and talking to people. It is bus stop advertisements. It is metro advertisements. It is radio advertisements. It is Wizards game , Mystics game, WFT game tie ins, it is DCLottery tie ins, it is television (not just news) tie ins. Where is the strategy? You know how we know there is no strategy, because even on this board where people ostensibly read, you hear people saying they cannot wait for their second shot so that they can stop wearing a mask. Are you kidding me. The city has really done nothing since March to put the word out. If you are the type of person to stream the Mayor's press conference, read the WaPo, or watch 5 Oclock news, you may have caught all of the COVID public interest items, but if those are not your regular stomping grounds, how are you learning what issues are impacting your family? That is what the city needs to address...yesterday. To talk about DCPS education here just shows that you really are not interested in tough solutions. Only admiring the problem. |

PP - The people do NOT want the shots!! Why is hard to
Accept this FACT?? The vaccine is made available to certain Wards FIRST - that means if the city gets allocated X amount - the first group is the selected zip codes (for Bowser votes) and then a smaller allotment to the horrible, terrible, Ward 4 people. |
| Meant Ward 3 - Ward 4 -Bowser and Co. are in first group |
People DO want the shots, numbnuts. I have been trying for weeks to get an appointment for my friend in Ward 5. None available. |
You need the magic Internet powers only available in Ward 3. |
|
Exactly.
As Bowser to make the zip codes "Ward 5" only. Then you will get one for your friend. Maybe. |
You do realize there actually are fewer people with internet access in certain wards, right? No one is suggesting that NO ONE in Wards 7 or 8 has internet access, just that it's less common than in other wards (presumably due to income levels because internet access costs money). |
Ward 4 has consistently had the highest number of positive cases since the beginning of the pandemic. I get that everybody wants to blame Bowser, Colonial Village, Shepard Park, etc. But the area hardest hit is around the Walmart on Georgia Ave (Brightwood, 16th Street Heights.) Look at the neighborhood data linked below. https://coronavirus.dc.gov/data |
Due to a small concentration of multi-generational households or due to millenial behavior? Why not vaccinate all elderly in multigenerational households anywhere. and then all the rest of the elderly? THAT is equity. |
Read the post a few back. Connectivity in DC is very high, even among poor people. This is not the reason. |
DC isn't rural, so sure, most places can access internet service (which is what the previous poster posted), but that's different from who actually pays for service. About 25% of DC residents don't have broadband access, but those numbers are more like 65% in Wards 5, 7, and 8 (numbers from the DC government). I think we can fairly assume that numbers are lower than that for the elderly who are less likely to use the internet overall. That places probably half the people you're trying to reach at a significant disadvantage, and you can't hand wave that away by saying "connectivity in DC is very high." |

Only DC could have dreamed up such an ineffectual and divisive strategy. Why are they creating the Hunger Games everyday? Instead, have the eligible people register online or by phone and then DC can contact them according to an algorithmically-sorted order that includes all wards day by day.
