LCPS return to in-person instruction postponed indefinitely

By this logic why haven’t kids been in all winter? There was no need to pause back in December when numbers weren’t this high if we can waive them now. It’s about public trust. If they don’t have faith in their own plans and numbers , and change them constantly, how can we?

I'm not comparing it at the aggregate level, just for kids (which was what the previous poster referred to). Are you denying that more kids have died of flu, suicide, or car accidents than COVID?

I’m not sure why people are confused what has changed. Vaccination has changed. Teachers were afraid to go back and most had no choice. Now, they will be vaccinated. Families always had a choice so those that feel unsafe are not forced to return. It’s that simple.

What changed is the metrics. We had them. They were set to guide safe opening. Which means safe for kids too. Now the metrics are being tossed out. With a staff that isn’t fully vaccinated, kids who aren’t at all, and out of control spread as high as it’s ever been.

Please avoid speaking truthful factual evidence and common sense. We want schools open no matter what. At the expensive of people’s health. Why is it so hard for you to grasp this!??!

Teachers will be fully vaccinated. And kids can stay home. Read Beth Barts latest post.

It's not hard to grasp. Yes, we absolutely want schools open now.

Look, you seem really confused. Teachers will be vaccinated. Kids have the choice to stay home.

* I am not confused *

Teachers can be vaccinated . Yay!
My kids can’t. UNTIL THIS WEEK, it has been the case that above 200/100k and 10% PCR was not safe due to spread. Suddenly we can be 4x higher than the first and 5.5% elevated behind the second and it’s ok? No. Yet if I feel unsafe MY KIDS HAVE TO SWITCH CLASSES. That’s insane. I’m not confused; I am allowed to be annoyed by this bait and switch.

Lady, you're just upset that things didn't go your way. If you knew back in November that the board would reopen schools, you would still have had to switch your child to a different classroom. You hoped they would keep the kids out til the metrics came down, but if you had been paying attention to the board meetings, the metrics were not adopted unanimously. And much of the opposition to reopening schools was based on the safety of teachers, which is now being alleviated by the vaccine.

The whole situation is fluid. The board is following new guidance from health and education departments at the state level.

My friends who have kids in private schools have all been fine all this time. They're also doing well from a mental health perspective and have been getting a better education. Their parents are also able to go to work.

I am at a loss for adjectives to describe what LCPS plans to do to ditch metrics.

Like, literally nobody cringes seeing how they said August was dangerous and unsafe but now, with the worst it’s been since we closed a year ago to flatten the curve miraculously science doesn’t matter.

Ok.

I don't see the point of community metrics. If private schools are allowed to open, so should public schools. If its not safe for kids to be in school, all schools and daycares should be shut down. If it safe, they should all be open.

That isn't why we didn't go in August. Were you paying attention at all? It was because the logistics were "hard" and admin didn't feel like figuring it out. Based upon school board members posts, the vaccination POD for teachers will be fully completed when we go back. Plus numbers nationwide are on a downward trend.

Please just call your school and switch your child from hybrid to DL and stop complaining here about going back. No one is making you.

Sure Jan. Because handling 400 student body is like handling a 89,000 student body.

Where tf do you people get your brains from?

With the 40% who chose hybrid being split in two groups, so 20% of student body in the building on any given day, its absolutely comparable to private school. In fact I guarantee that my local ES will be FAR emptier than St. Joe's or St. Theresa's which are in session 5 days a week for all students.

Why haven’t you applied for superintendent yet? LCPS needs one.

It’s your chance!!

Because that is a $hit job for $300k. Many many jobs in the area pay more than that for less stress and work. If we ever want to get someone good in the role, we need to get past the notion that $300k is a ridiculous salary when it is definitely not.

Ok. What jobs pay better than that? So I’ll resign as a teacher and make that kind of money.

Go on. Spill the beans.
