Yeah, like Rodman’s daughter.

Huh? SHe is a college player, not a youth player club player anymore and she one of a tiny tiny handful that will try to play professional women's soccer. SHe has little to do with the big business fancy youth club sports.

They are expensive activities for well off kids with a very very very very few exceptions of ones that people might pay to watch - and in the case of women's' pro soccer - that is a big might..

You mean the daughter of a multi millionaire from the biggest and most powerful youth female club in the US? Yeah, okay.

what does she have to do with the regular old business of youth soccer? she is a unique very atypical player of freak ability, resources and and fame.

You made a claim that soccer in America is only for the children of affluent parents. And for that reason, we are lacking.

High end competitive club soccer is for affluent players - not all soccer. I think there are options for different resource levels.

Only lacking in that the competition structure is so sliced and diced that kids end up sorted based on resources but I don't find that a huge problem. No one is fundamentally deprived if they cant play fancy youth soccer.

You don’t make sense. There is nothing fancy about it. It’s soccer. Nor do you need to be affluent to afford it. It may be a scam with a lot of unnessary expenditures...that I will agree with...but not financial unattainable for most people.

College on the other hand.....

You are oblivious in a bubble if think average american families have enough expendable cash lying about to fly their kids around to play youth soccer. Pay in one of these leagues and you will quickly see who most of these families are. i am not saying they are teaching their kids to play polo but - they are not really lacking in expendable income. Sorry but there are very few exceptions to this.

Not in a bubble. I’m pretty sure I’ve payed over $50,000 over the last six or seven years. I paid for it by driving a beater with 150,000 miles that is paid off, refinancing my home for a better interest rate, using the showcase events as family vacations, etc.

If you can find a way to free up 200 a month you can afford top travel.

Now, I can easily go out and buy a $50,000 dollar vehicle and pick up 400 a month payment. However, that won’t help.

Decisions my friend.

I have been at this for a long time with multiple kids. Average family income in this country is just over $60,000. I don't think there is even one family involved with ANY of the teams my players have been involved with that is at or below or very close to that. You are just not in reality if you believe these high end leagues full of families like that.

I have been at this for a long time as well. I’m giving you my story. I know a lot of families that struggle to pay but find ways. Yes, not everyone can throw money around so easily. I get that. However, where there is a will there is a way. You have to prioritize.

This is an extremely wealth country. There is a lot of extra money out there to be earned.

I’ve meet plenty of people who complain about lack of money but have nicer thing than me. Everyone’s money is tied up somewhere.

Agree but expensive youth soccer is just not making it to the top of the priority list ofr many 60K income families.

Nor should it. I am not judging that lots of families do not join these types of leagues, just stating reality.

Again....$60,000 can go along way depending on where you live and how you choose to tie up your cash.

$60,000 in DC is not the same $60,000 in West Virginia

Are there a lot of deluxe youth soccer teams to join in West Virginia? This business knows where to market their product.

What business? We, the parents, created this mess. All the over-achieving parents who always need to find an advantage for their kids created this. The parents who were willing to pay to give their kids an advantage created this.

Keeping up with the Jones’s is what causes this.

You can’t blame people for profiting from the mess we created. When I was a kid, we all played rec and rec was good......because we all played it. Go figure.
