| Who's not traveling? Have you been in a Walmart? Everyone is doing their part by distancing, washing, and wearing masks. California is in total lockdown, as is the UK... yet cases are exploding. Locking down will do nothing.. .individuals doing their part. College sports are fully on, just in different locations. Why can't kids sports? You can take your kid out if you fear that much, otherwise, you're trying to shut down everyone. |
I heard that NC is enforcing masks for all participants, including players (while in the game, not just on bench). Anyone know if this is true? |
| Players are required to wear masks while playing in NC, will our local players be able to play with the mask on? |

You sound jealous and upset that this happened.
I am upset. I have lost loved ones to covid. Why are big travel events happening at this time.? People are being begged not to travel right now. Seems very irresponsible from so called professional organizations tasked with providing services to minors.
Restaurants are open. Are you telling them about all this insight and sadness that you alone apparently have?
It is not my insight. I am probably as much of an infectious disease expert as my club which is to say ...not. the expert guidance is to please avoid traveling right now. |
| Outdoor soccer seems to be fine. The traveling is strongly discouraged at this time. At this point, soccer competitions should not be among far flung teams....that needs to wait. |
I don't understand why traveling is specifically a problem. If two locations have similar rates of disease why is it any more or less risky to play a game further from home than one next door? |
| The airports, flights, rental car locations, hotels, spread of virus and varients from state to state, etc. etc, etc. I guess. Travel is very strongly discouraged right now. This thing is highly contagious with asymptomatic, exponential spread. |
That is good question. Did they already get rid of this guy?..... "Richmond, VA (May 13, 2020) – The Elite Clubs National League, a leading youth sports organization in the United States, is pleased to announce the appointment of Drew Watson, MD, MS, as Chief Medical Advisor to the ECNL effective immediately. This newly formed position within the ECNL will support the health and safety of players, provide education to coaches and clubs, and guide the league in developing best practices in youth soccer." |
| What to do? Take the advice of anonymous dcum posters or professional infectious disease scientists? |
|
NC can be accessed by car from VA. Players are required to wear masks in NC and players having been practicing that way to get used to it.
As someone who knows better, I agree with the above poster that we need to continue to do our part to reduce viral spread with CDC guidelines but that life needs to otherwise continue. It’s already having too much of an effect on our kids not to go school or see friends. Be careful, but live your life! |
| It’s been a really long two weeks of “flattening the curve” |
| Don’t you live these government employees who are getting paid for doing half the work and aren’t willing to recognize that this ongoing partial lockdown is killing people. There is an entire infrastructure supporting travel soccer that will be. A casualty like restaurants, real estate, performers, etc. |
This is true.....started enforcing masks for everything in December. |
I'm not saying ECNL shouldn't be holding national events, but seems very irresponsible that masks aren't being enforced. I'm also surpised that clubs from all over the country are traveling to the these events and putting their families at risk. Not so much the players during the games, but during the travel involved. |

The irony is that these soccer programs from all these institutions of higher learning are supporting all the travel by participating as scouts. These are the places that train all these high level public health experts and scientists and then the soccer programs turn around and ignore their expertise.
If the coaches insisted on only watching video from more local events and league games that do not require lots of travel, it would but an end to these events until the situation improves. I can't put much stock in this ecnl medical expert who seems to be at odds with the experts begging folks to not travel right now. |
