Here’s an article on it.

That’s the NY Murdoch Post. It’s not trustworthy.
Murdoch has lost hundreds of millions of dollars on that paper over the decades for a reason. And it’s not because he’s donating money to us or to society.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo confirmed that a family of four and their neighbor have all tested positive for the coronavirus, bringing the number of cases in the state to at least six.

March 4

This is the nightmare - the entire family sick, unclear if they are all hospitalized or if some need to fend for themselves while sick at home. The neighbor drove the dad to the hospital and caught it. So much for hoping neighbors will help out going forward...

That REALLY contagious if the driver caught from him in a short car trip, isn't it? I mean, my dh had the flu last year, and we slept in the same bed, shared a kitchen, etc, and I didn't get it. Neither did our 7yo. Taxi and Uber drivers take sick people around every day. What is the deal?

You could have gotten a very mild or asymptomatic case of the flu. And driving someone to the hospital (maybe not such a short drive in Westchester) who is extremely sick and coughing is actually pretty high-risk contact.

New Rochelle to Lawrence Hospital is probably about a 15-20 minute drive. But it’s possible the neighbor is part of the same synagogue and may have had additional exposure to him.

Nothing yet on the results of the 6th person that was being tested from DC?

Don’t forget all the people he could have exposed on his trip to Miami and his daily trip on the train into NYC. He also went to a funeral. His family too could have exposed lots of people too.

The dog is sick--confirmed.

Hong Kong authorities confirmed the dog has the coronavirus and got it from their owner.

The surveillance website was updated this morning and no change. I think it's ridiculous. We can only begin to be safe once we know what's going on in our city. The last FDA commissioner just said there are likely thousands of cases in the US right now. If 200 of them are in DC, I WANT TO KNOW YESTERDAY.

I read on reddit that they were killing the pets of people who got the virus in China. I don't have a dog anymore, but I can't imagine coming home from the hospital to realize my dog was killed.

Rumor is that there is a patient with Covid-19 at Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Or the neighbor may have been lackadaisical and not washed his hands before popping a piece of gum in his mouth or something like that.

You should probably just operate as if there are confirmed cases in DC....

He's at New York Presbyterian in Washington Heights - or at least he is now.

Is the CDC reporting testing stats anywhere?

I think US numbers are not accurate because no one is getting treated! They are testing thousands per day in South Korea. Only 500 or so are tested in us. I think many more people have corona and we do not know it yet.

This is my fear. I keep hearing of people with severe undiagnosed upper respiratory illnesses. Makes you wonder...

I take it back, the 6th is negative. I'm infinitely more concerned about the minuscule number of tests than reassured by the minuscule number of negatives.

Very stupid to quarantine returning students in DORMS:

He also said about 300 students and faculty from SUNY and CUNY schools studying abroad in five high-risk countries — China, Iran, Italy, Japan and South Korea — would be brought home on a charter flight and quarantined in dorms for 14 days.

I wish I could but dcps will only try offering teleschool once it's too late, and ditto for OPM. Anything sooner than too late would look alarmist because people are stupid.

This. They are probably already here, there just hasn't been much testing done. It is what it is, they didn't properly work to contain it early so the virus has probably spread faster than authorities would have liked.
