Unfortunately, there are not enough white kids out there to fix every school. Maybe they could increase the number of Magnet kids at Eastern. |
Please refrain from immature statements like this. Not helpful. |
| I meant *inflammatory* but *immature* works too. |

Forget the entire model of schools, school systems, and property values tied to quality of schools. Get rid of the idea of traditional classrooms altogether. Kids can sit in a room and get live streamed lessons from the best teachers in the county for each grade. That'd save on teaching labor/costs, only the very best teachers would get jobs, and EVERY student could get the same lessons from the same teachers. Aides could be present where the students are to maintain discipline and collect/grade homework.
That's what college students do these days. You don't have to be physically present in the classroom and can stream a professor's lesson. All kids get the same instruction from the best teachers. End of story. And it wouldn't pollute the environment and cause traffic with hundreds of thousands of hours of busing and sitting and traffic over years. |
Right? It’s appalling. |
So if all the unskilled labor moves out like you wish, what’s your plan for filling all the service industry jobs? You gonna volunteer to restock the organic milk at Whole Foods? Bus your own tables at Fiola? |
Exactly this. There was virtually no chance to comment, I didnt hear about it until it has been decided. It should have been put up for a public vote really. |
But Eastern would get the Takoma park kids I think. Or Woodlin MS maybe? I can’t remember bow |
There isn’t a Woodlin MS. |
The Takoma Park kids go to Takoma Park MS, not Eastern MS. The only two ESs that feed into Eastern MS are Pine Crest and Oak View (Eastern also has the humanities magnet program which brings in out of boundary kids - I would say about 85-90 of the 100 magnet kids in each grade are out of boundary). Pine Crest is 48 percent FARMS and Oak View is 72 percent FARMS. If Pine Crest is redistricted to White Oak MS, Eastern MS would end up being 60-70 percent FARMS (it is currently 50 percent). |
What I've heard from a friend who's connected on the MoCo political "scene" is it's likely to be a lawsuit over the Clarksburg redistricting that took place a few weeks ago. Deadline to file an appeal to that decision is 12/26. |
What a ridiculous waste of time and money. MCPS has every right to reassign students to different schools. |
Here's what you don't get - and I say this as a teacher: We ARE MCPS. We pay taxes to fund salaries (mine included). So we better damn well have a say. |
Yes, you have a say via the BOE members, who are your elected representatives. They approved the plan 7-1. |
Why, the truth hurts? |
