High waisted jeans aren't flattering

+1 same except I’m a zero because I’m short. I’m relieved that I no longer have to see women’s butt cracks and thongs now that super low rise jeans are out.

For real. I feel like this was over in 2004

Apparently not for some die-hards in this thread. I mean, fine if they don't look good on you, but why do jealous of those for will they suit?

I'm pretty sure that all the people saying that high rise jeans look good on them are mistaken about how a high rise jean fits. High rise jeans have a waistband that is about two inches ABOVE your belly button. Having denim fabric around your mid-section where you bend is kinda like wearing a girdle made of jeans. This is what they look like and how you style them: https://us.topshop.com/en/tsus/product/tall-mid-blue-joni-jeans-8089861?cmpid=ppc_pla_US_ip&istCompanyId=da794a11-99cb-4206-8e52-61037452aeeb&istFeedId=02701874-f9e8-446a-b209-91c0e33b94a6&istItemId=wrmqxriaq&istBid=tztx&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzsrmqp3j5QIVn4FaBR3P4gXtEAQYAiABEgLvPvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

And the first link to the Madewell jeans is an example of these: https://www.madewell.com/tapered-jeans-in-eastgate-wash-button-front-edition-L4151.html?dwvar_L4151_color=DM2835&cgid=apparel-jeans-perfectsummer#intcmp=denimfitguide_apparel-jeans-perfectsummer&start=25

Unless you're shopping in a store for teens you're probably not buying high rise. I can't imagine that many stores that cater to adult women would even be offering those. Mid-rise is what gives full coverage to your butt and I'd bet that's what the adults posting here are wearing.

There's a brand called Not Your Daughter's Jeans (NYDJ) that is obviously made for those of us who have given birth. They don't show butt crack and they have some stretch in them. https://www.nydj.com/sheri-slim-jeans/MAERSS2336.html?dwvar_MAERSS2336_color=858&dwvar_MAERSS2336_size=00&cgid=denim-style-sheri-slim#page=1&start=1 They are made for moms, but they have up-to-date cuts.

High rise constricts digestion and often causes cramps. You have to unbutton them after eating.

You linked to the tall size. Switch to regular and the fit is exactly as described in this thread.

Yes. The analysis above is totally off.

I’m a size 12 and like my madewell high rises. I would NOT want exclusively high rises, but I like them for variation. The ones I have from madewell are VERY comfortable!!!!! I don’t feel squeezed at all.

Entirely fit dependent, you don't have to go that tight. Totally out of favor, but some people find constriction decreases cramps.

You're saying that the mid-rise jeans in that link fit like mid-rise jeans? How does that make the above analysis wrong?

Read the description. It says MID and they're for regular height people. So according to you, the fit being discussed here is mid-rise, not high-rise.

You are confused. Those aren't three different cuts of jeans, they are the same cut of jeans in three different size ranges: petite, regular, tall.
I agree the photo of tall may be fitting high on the model's waist (can't really see a reference point), however that's an issue with finding a fit model--she's probably taller than their other model, but may not be in the center of the size range for "tall" clothing, so they look janky. Anyway, if I'm a regular height person, I don't get high rise jeans by buying something designed for tall people, just like I don't get low rise jeans by buying petite. It may kinda of work if I do, but instead I should look for high-waisted jeans designed for someone my height. All the jeans shown are the "Joni" and they are all designed to be high-rise on the appropriate woman. If you want to understand how they are supposed to fit, better to look at regular height, as there are more photos and the fit models are probably easier to come by. It is confusing, but when the caption says "mid blue" they are referring to the color, not the cut of jeans.

Of course, it is also possible to buy jeans that go even higher, but a waist is a waist, and in that case it's necessary to taper back out, like a corset.

I'm with you OP, I can't wait for this trend to die as well. Actually if they look great on someone, wonderful. But to me they're terribly uncomfortable.

Anonymous wrote:Wait, how far up to high waisted jeans go? All these posts about jeans coming up to your boobs... I’m a shortie and I’m pretty sure my high rise jeans come up to my bellybutton or just below. I still have plenty of space between the jean top and the bottom of my boobs.

We must have different body type because these silly jeans come up to the band of my sports bra. Ridiculous

It's kinda like a variant of the old expression "at a certain age, choose your ass or your face." But the jeans version: "choose your ass or your waist." I'm a tall hourglass and think both (relatively) low rise and high rise jeans look OK on me, no extremes, but the former definitely helps define your tush and the latter your waist. So PPs, you're all correct--both can be flattering, or not, but you sacrifice something either way...
