High waisted jeans aren't flattering

Anonymous
In the 70’s when I was in high school
And college I always felt fat and dumpy in jeans. Because back then they were all essentially “mom jeans” with a higher rise and tapered legs. I have a short torso and at the time was a little thick in the thighs. In the 90’s when they came out with lower rises especially with a slightly flared leg I suddenly started looking good in jeans. Oh what that style could’ve done for my self esteem in the 80’s. It is still a much better look on my figure. A lower rose with a slight flare. Makes my torso longer. I have larger breasts. Accentuates my waist and makes my legs look longer with just an average heel boot or shoe.

PP here. Means to say 80’s not 70’’s. Had I been a teen In The 70’s I would’ve rocked bell bottoms and low rise jeans!!!

I've naturally high waisted (short torso), and find that only high waisted jeans look good on me - but maybe this is due to my muffin top.....

Totally disagree. I’m Apple shaped and they are the only jeans that don’t fall off me. And they look four million times better than mid-waist or god forbid low rise.

Lol high rise jeans do NOT look good on an apple shape. TRUST.

sadly, low rise is starting to make a comeback not that I'll be wearing them.

Mid-rise are always the best on me. With my short torso, they hit where high-rises hit people with longer torsos. High waist is usually closer to boob level on me. Not a good look.

That’s called boot cut jeans!

I'm pretty sure that all the people saying that high rise jeans look good on them are mistaken about how a high rise jean fits. High rise jeans have a waistband that is about two inches ABOVE your belly button. Having denim fabric around your mid-section where you bend is kinda like wearing a girdle made of jeans. This is what they look like and how you style them: https://us.topshop.com/en/tsus/product/tall-mid-blue-joni-jeans-8089861?cmpid=ppc_pla_US_ip&istCompanyId=da794a11-99cb-4206-8e52-61037452aeeb&istFeedId=02701874-f9e8-446a-b209-91c0e33b94a6&istItemId=wrmqxriaq&istBid=tztx&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzsrmqp3j5QIVn4FaBR3P4gXtEAQYAiABEgLvPvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

And the first link to the Madewell jeans is an example of these: https://www.madewell.com/tapered-jeans-in-eastgate-wash-button-front-edition-L4151.html?dwvar_L4151_color=DM2835&cgid=apparel-jeans-perfectsummer#intcmp=denimfitguide_apparel-jeans-perfectsummer&start=25

Unless you're shopping in a store for teens you're probably not buying high rise. I can't imagine that many stores that cater to adult women would even be offering those. Mid-rise is what gives full coverage to your butt and I'd bet that's what the adults posting here are wearing.

There's a brand called Not Your Daughter's Jeans (NYDJ) that is obviously made for those of us who have given birth. They don't show butt crack and they have some stretch in them. https://www.nydj.com/sheri-slim-jeans/MAERSS2336.html?dwvar_MAERSS2336_color=858&dwvar_MAERSS2336_size=00&cgid=denim-style-sheri-slim#page=1&start=1 They are made for moms, but they have up-to-date cuts.

Thank you for posting this! The ridiculous pictures on Madewell give the perfect example of how silly these high rise jeans look. In the second picture that zooms in on the buttons the model looks like she's wearing Depends. If even the model doesn't look good in an item, it's not promising for everyone else.

No, go back and read the responses, that poster has serious reading comprehension issues. True the model linked is a bit overwhelmed by the rise of those jeans. However, that is their *tall* cut, the fit model just isn’t tall enough. Click on any of the regular views, and there’s a properly fitted, and flattering high-rise cut.

Those are terrible examples. The denim is cheap looking jeggings. I would consider anything with a rise over 10 inches to be high rise. High rise is absolutely flattering on slender figures with narrow waist. If you carry weight around your middle and you try to squeeze into a high rise then everything gets pushed down below waist band and you end up with a fupa. But they look fabulous on a lot of women. I think the high rise straight leg look best. Like these, even though they are crop would be normal length on anyone non-model height.

As a man, I can assure you that no man wants to see your butt in high rise jeans. If this jean trend catches on I will stop leaving the house.

High rise jeans have been trendy for years.

Oh stop, not a man. No man would ever say that. Just another woman who looks awful in high waist jeans and is perturbed low rise can't be found anymore
