I didn’t think we ate THAT clean, until we went to a party with all processed foods

I suggest you just never speak to the people who threw the party again.

Also how long was this party? Couldn't you just wait and eat later?

Only for an hour or so this AM. I thought it was homemade, until I took a bite and realized it was all highly processed stuff. I didn’t eat more, except the donut, and promptly felt sick. It was my own fault obviously. I haven’t been eating much sugar at all so the sugar made me sick.

Sugar shack donuts are definitely unhealthy and full of sugar, but they don't contain a ton of preservatives etc.

I know. I’m saying I know the sugar made me sick. For the other stuff, I found the processed food to be inedible. I didn’t think we ate THAT well, but I couldn’t even eat the rest of the food. Blah.

I haven't read all the replies, but I get ill from those prepared loaf-type baked goods or muffins, whether from a grocery store or deli or Starbucks or whatever. They always make me feel sick to my stomach and off. I don't eat them anymore.

I eat plenty of junk, prepackaged food without issue. I don't think it's the sugar, though I'm more of a salty food person. I don't have an issue with doughnuts (granted I haven't had the Entemenns ones for a while), cookies, candy, etc.

I just want to know what "bad bread" versus "good bread" is. Everyone keeps saying not to get the Giant or Costco bread so is the only good bread the kind you have to bake yourself? Or is everyone thinking white vs. whole wheat or what? Karen? Becky? can you help explain to me?

Look at the ingredients. If it’s full of palm oil, hydrogenated oils and preservatives, don’t get it. Yes, a good rule of thumb is to avoid baked goods at Walmart that are designed to sit on shelves for months. Try trader Joe’s Their products actually have an expiration date. If you leave TJ bread bag out on the counter, it will mold within a week, which should be true of “real” bread.

Yes. Ok. We get it OP. You can stop repeating how you don't think you eat THAT clean. You eat just the right amount of clean, you are just the right amount of privately rude to still be considered a gracious guest, unlike your SIL who eats too clean and is too upfront about her dietary preferences to be as fabulous as you.

And you are only getting bashed because you obviously posted this in the wrong forum. It has nothing to do with your personality shining through.

Did I miss anything?

Oh, yes. I'm jealous. Forgot.

Did anyone watch Will & Grace and remember the episode where Grace finds Karen scarfing down cheap tacos in a disguise because she's embarrassed it's not "classy"? And then Karen sees her snobby friend doing it, too? That's how I picture all the DCUM food elitists who go around pretending their baked kale and homemade condiments taste better than fast food or Doritos. Give me a break. I'll believe if you say that AFTERWARD, you feel ill, but processed food tastes fantastic most of the time.

I didn’t think anything of it until we went to a birthday party with ALL processed food. I couldn’t even eat it. It was so gross. And what I did eat, now I have a headache and feel sick. Food included loaves of banana and blueberry bread (must be those breads in the “bakery” at wal mart that expire in a few months?), mini quiches, vanilla yogurt, and donuts.

I’m not sure what was in the food, but my gosh, I feel SO sick!

Everything but the donuts sounds fine to me. What's wrong with quiche and yogurt?

Eh. Yes and no.

I don't find most fast food good or tasty. If you don't eat it and stop by a McDonalds or BK or Wendy, the stuff really does taste chemically and vile. Same with Doritos or Cheetohs or most sodas. I'm not sure what you mean by processed food tasting fantastic most of the time. Or what constitutes as processed food for you. But the food I'm thinking of are so laded with oils and fats and sugar and starch that if you don't eat it regularly, you do notice it and taste it. I won't judge you for eating fast food/processed food/junk food, but don't judge others who don't like it either. And don't kid yourself into thinking it's healthy to eat those kinds of food either. As a treat, sure, fine, but everyday? You got to be kidding.

I do laugh at the calorie counters who only eat salads and secretly binge on ice cream. But that's different.

+1. Do I get my eat on? Yes. But it's more like real mashed potatoes and real, good-quality cake. I honestly can leave bowls of candy completely alone. I can leave nasty grocery store frosted cookies alone. But I will eat homemade or high-quality cookies.

I'm not saying all store-bought items are gross; but I am saying there are a lot of sub-par things I can leave alone. I'll eat a real bagel. I don't even look at Thomas's bagels in the conference room.
